All my favorites at once

Today's Manga: (The subject line doesn't apply to this part.) Rosario + Vampire 2, Dragon Drive 9, Faeries' Landing 19, Hell Girl 3, Eyeshield 21 21 (we have come full circle!), Hoshin Engi 8, Fairy Cube 2, Muhyo and Roji's Bureau of Supernatural Investigation 6, Tail of the Moon 12, D. Gray-Man 10, the first book of Sugar Princess, and the first two books of Yozakura Quartet, yet another series that nobody bothered to tell me would appeal to me. It's not great so far, but it has potential.

Today's Anime: XXX-Holic 4 and the full series box set of Peach Girl. Why not?

Today's other stuff: A wireless desktop set on sale for $30 (pretty good... I can sit on my bed and lean forward a bit to be in range), Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay, and DiRT: Origin of the Species for the PC. It's intrigued me for a while, it's $10, and I finally have a computer that can run games like that. Well, sort of... for some reason, installing the version 1.2 patches makes the game crap out completely. It gives me the black screen of death, and the only way to get out of it is to Ctrl-Alt-Del log out and log back in. The troubleshooting section says it's because of a resolution mismatch, but I tried every resolution that looked like it might work, including 640x480. I had to uninstall and reinstall the game, and without the patches, it runs fine. I rather wish I could find the 1.1 patches... it looked like there were a lot of bug fixes in that one. And it would be nice to have more resolution choices. Anyway, the game itself is interesting, but pretty hard. There are lots of psychic powers, most of which seem to have very limited use. They're great for killing an enemy or a group of enemies, but then you have to wait forever to be able to use another one. And the people you're trying to save always get in the way of your shots. I've been picking Aggressor mode because that seems like the easiest way to get points, but the special ability is throwing grenades, and they're about as useful as you'd expect. They kill people easily enough, but monsters don't stand still long enough to get blown up. I managed to save one guy once, and there was a comic strip-style cutscene with some story advancement. There are major control issues, but I might try the XBox 360 controller scheme before I go panning it completely.

Dinner at TGI Friday's went unexpectedly well. We were seated right away, got a free appetizer thanks to Curt being part of an elite group, got drink refills when we needed them, got great food (I highly recommend the Tennessee barbecue sauce), and generally didn't have any major problems. We both tipped about 30%, and I considered even more, but it was a pretty expensive dinner. Hooray for restaurants not screwing up! And I never did eat my pie. Oops.

I can't remember ever hearing of DiRT. It sounds like an off-roading game or something. :)

Nah. More like Bullet Witch or Tomb Raider, but with psychic powers like razor discs and telekinesis.

Oh, okay. Got it.

WOW! That's amazing that for once you got good service! Especially since it was both of you at the same time!

Yes, I'm THAT Nidoking. Sometimes I write fanfiction... often I waste all my time playing video games and watching anime. But it's not a waste if I enjoy it, right? I can quote from a movie, video game, anime series, or British comedy apropos of just about any situation, and one of my main goals in life is to entertain people. (The other big one is amassing as much anime and manga as I can... see below for a progress report.) That's me in a nutshell. ("Help! I'm trapped in a nutshell! What a bloody great nutshell this is!")
