The trip to San Diego was thankfully uneventful, aside from a mad dash from one end of O'Hare airport to the other in twenty minutes to make the connection. The in-flight movie was Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and I got to discuss with Dan the differences between that, the Gene Wilder version, and the original book. (Basically, the Gene Wilder version was more of a musical and very light in tone, while the Johnny Depp version was pretty close to the books except that the subplot with Wonka's father, and his resultant distaste for children and parents, were added for effect that I didn't much care for.) I also heard a hilarious song on the radio, only to realize a few verses in that I'd tuned in to a Christian rock station. It was still great hearing impressions of cartoon characters saying "Hallelujah" in their accents. I'm sure half of my friends-list switchboard just lit up with people commenting to tell me what song it was. Something like "If Cartoons Were Saved". On the flip side, we heard that "Blinded by the Light" song with the curious chorus that sounds very like "wrapped up like a douche, another runner in the night". I also found something that I think would make a great Christmas present for the last unaccounted-for member of my family, and while it seemed a bit overpriced to me (and the guys selling it claimed that the actual price is even higher, when not part of this special offer), they gave me a deal on three of them that worked out to about how much I intended to pay. I just have to figure out what to do with the third one. (And, of course, try it out to make sure it works as claimed. I doubt they'd try to sell me something that doesn't work, but just in case...) We had lunch at Marie Callender's, then bought some deli sandwiches for dinner and other supplies for spending a few days in the lovely Residence Inn suites where we're lodging at per diem.

Anyway, as you can probably tell from the existence of this entry, my computer is online for the moment. The reason I'm not on AIM is that I didn't sign up for a visible IP address, I suspect. I'll do that tomorrow, after the current login cookie expires. And speaking of cookies, the Keebler White Fudge Stripes Cookies & Creme ones are pretty good. And having said that and successfully fended off caffeine for another day, it's getting to be my bedtime in Eastern and it's not a particularly bad time to get to bed in Pacific either, so I think I'll do that and see what my biological clock has to say when the alarm goes off early tomorrow morning.

By the way: Got to read a bit more of The Dark Tower today. I think it proves that even foregone conclusions don't have to be disappointing.
