Today's Bridge: I drew the low card as usual, but Ken was a bit late showing up, so I got to play. And unusually, I actually had some powerful hands. I got to open 2NT with S A-x-x-x H A-x-x D A-K-J C K-Q-x, and Kevin raised me to 3 with S J-x-x H x-x-x D Q-x-x C A-x-x-x or so. When his jack of spades took the opening trick, it was a laydown, which was a relief after two failed contracts. Then I got H J-x-x D J-x C A-K-J-10-9-x-x-x, which I thought warranted a 4C opener. Kevin raised me to 5, but Paul decided to jump in with 5H. I would have doubled that, but Dan corrected to 5S, and I certainly couldn't double that. Nor could Kevin, even though we set them two. Finally, I got a slightly better hand with S J-x H x-x D A-x C A-Q-x-x-x-x-x, which might have been strong enough for a proper opener, but I went with 3C. Paul overcalled 3H, and Kevin jumped to 6C. Risky move, but he had S A-Q-x-x H A D x-x-x C K-J-x-x-x and was counting me for short diamonds. The opening lead was the king of diamonds, so I had to take it, and after pulling two rounds of trump (I didn't care - trump weren't the issue), I ran the jack of spades through, and when it held, I got two more spade tricks, tossing my losing diamond to make 7 doubled. (It was the last hand of the rubber, so Dan doubled with a Yarborough. Why not?) Had Paul gone up with the king of spades on the first round, he'd have held me to the contract, since I'd have no way to get rid of the diamond loser.

Today's Work: I got a new assignment for the main project, which will keep me busy for the rest of the week even though they didn't send the document that actually has all of the important information in it. What they sent was basically "We have numbers to tell us how many of these things there are, and a free text field, plus the information in a document that we didn't send you." I think I found it, but if it's not the official version, who knows how correct it is? Then again, how much do I care? I've got A version, so that's what I'm working with. If they want me using a particular version, they should send it to me. I did as much as I could, but I started getting a headache in the afternoon and came home without doing any overtime. I think the pain medicine I took when I got home may have helped, and I figure I'll take a nighttime dose now that it's wearing off. I have no illusions that it'll help me sleep, but I don't want to have to try to justify taking tomorrow off, even if it DOES manage to snow despite the predictions that it'll snow.

Check that... it's actually snowing. Guess I got the garbage out just in time.

I'm actually getting somewhere in Skyward Sword now that I have almost all of the items and can go places and do things. I'm also spending money as quickly as I can collect it and still leaving valuable stuff unbought because I'll never be able to afford it. Some pretty weird sidequests showing up lately. I shouldn't have stayed up so late playing it, but then, there's always just that one more thing I want to do before quitting.

Yes, I'm THAT Nidoking. Sometimes I write fanfiction... often I waste all my time playing video games and watching anime. But it's not a waste if I enjoy it, right? I can quote from a movie, video game, anime series, or British comedy apropos of just about any situation, and one of my main goals in life is to entertain people. (The other big one is amassing as much anime and manga as I can... see below for a progress report.) That's me in a nutshell. ("Help! I'm trapped in a nutshell! What a bloody great nutshell this is!")
