Moa: The King of Destruction

I might start an actual blog with anime/manga reviews or related posts. Thoughts?

Happy birthday to ankita_1, if she's still around.

Today's Bridge: Dan sat in the "cursed" seat, and it was a contest of whether his "talent" for getting good cards (in the Law of Ueki sense, naturally) would overcome the stigma of that seat. It's hard to say, based on the results, but when I lost what should have been an easy 4C Rdbl by two tricks, I think they had the best of the deal. I had S x-x H A-K-x-x-x D A-10 C K-Q-x-x, so I opened 1H, Kevin responded 2D, and I jumped to 4C. Dan doubled that, and Kevin redoubled. He had S x H x D K-Q-9-8-7-x-x C J-10-x-x, I think, which makes the play pretty easy. I win the heart lead, pull trump, and run the diamonds. The only way it can possibly lose is if the diamond split is 4-0 AND the club split is 4-1 or worse. With a good diamond split, I can set up the diamonds to run after pulling all four rounds of trump (a 5-0 split is fatal no matter what, but at least I can see it coming well in advance), and if they're 4-0, but the clubs split, I can run three diamonds, then ruff a diamond to set up the rest and ruff back to claim the rest. Obviously, both splits were off, and Brandy ruffed the diamond I was planning to use to cross to my hand to pull the last trump. I had to drop the ace, because the diamonds were the only board entry I had. Then he had another diamond void in the next hand, but bid so weak that they stopped at 4S in a hand that was an easy grand slam - all we had was the ace of diamonds. I took a chance later on H Q-J-10-9-8-7-x D A-K-Q-x C x-x and opened 4H, Dan naturally overcalled 4S, and I decided not to raise if Kevin didn't. He did, and the opponents didn't double. He had S x-x-x-x H 5-3 D x-x-x C A-K-J-10, and the opening lead was the queen of diamonds. Also amazingly, when I ran the first heart to the 7, Dan held his ace, so the two top honors both fell on the next trick. Thanks for the overtrick, but we couldn't make 3NT in the following hand.

Today's Work: More questions flying around about whether I sent the right stuff to the lab (I did... everything they asked me was easily explained), and a meeting to try to determine how big the next release is going to be based entirely on our experience with the completely unrelated first release and educated guesswork. I hope they like meaningless numbers.

I figure it's a bit late to worry about anime now, so I'll probably work on finishing my Monk novel. No sense bringing it on the trip when I'm almost at the end, and I don't want to leave it unfinished and proceed to another book. I might have broken earlier, but I was working on a Toonstruck video and playing DQ9. I didn't think it was a good idea to fight a boss when I was almost out of MP, and I was right, but I only had to use a few healing items to get by. I don't use those enough when playing games. I should go Alchemize the ones I still have and equip some useful ones. I miss the ability to switch weapons in battle from DQ8. Could I maybe put a weapon in an active item slot? Doubt it. I guess I have to decide on a per-battle basis whether my priest should be dealing damage or recovering MP.
