Moa: The King of Destruction

Will I ever hear a good thing about the Avatar: The Last Airbender movie?

Happy birthday to danightman, whatever's become of him.

Today's Bridge: Pretty much the opposite of yesterday - Ken and I were partners, and we had most of the good hands today. The first one was probably the best - I had S A-Q-x-x H x-x D A-K-J-x C Q-x-x, which was enough to open 1D, and Ken responded 2H. That was a jump, and I probably shouldn't have jumped myself, but I wanted to give him an idea of my strength as well, so I bid 3S. He bid 4C, and it didn't sound like we had a fit, so I attempted to close at 4NT. Naturally, he took that as Blackwood, so we went all the way up to 6NT anyway. He had S x-x-x H A-K-Q-x-x D x C A-J-x-x, which doesn't look like slam-making material, but the opening diamond lead gave me one of the finesses for free. I ran the two club finesses, winning both, then cashed the top three hearts, finding the 3-3 split I needed. I sluffed two more losers on the good hearts, then ran the spade finesse in the hope of finding an overtrick, but lost it. It still made the slam, but that was highly improbable. I also declared a 3NT with the possibility of overtricks, but the only good diamond I had was the ace I used on the first trick, so I had to take my ten tricks and concede the rest. Then there was a 4H resulting from a Stayman bid, which I don't remember being particularly hard-pressed to make. I think I picked up an overtrick when the opponents didn't attack my weak clubs, allowing me to sluff a loser. They bid a few contracts, but always seemed to be in the wrong suit and never made one until the very end, when I think Brandy managed a 3NT where, had they taken all 13 tricks, they'd have lost to us by 10 points.

Today's Work: I got through a good portion of the list today, but the new guy on the team stopped by in the afternoon to ask if I could get him a copy of our messaging software so he could experiment with it. That's a great idea, but software is hard to come by where we work. I think we'll have to wait until next week to work anything out, and I need to find out if we even have a license for him. If we do, then it should be a simple matter to put the software on a computer once he has a way to use one. It's a system designed to make it impossible for anyone to get anything done. But it was a welcome break from what I was doing before.

I'm getting way behind on keeping track of my finances. My receipts are piling up, I'm probably forgetting about some receiptless purchases (well, online stuff where I don't get a piece of paper for my pile to remind me about them), and I have a bank statement waiting to be checked against my records. I'll do that when I have time. Right now, I've only got about enough time to try recording more Toonstruck before bed. I didn't sleep well last night because I tried increasing the firmness on my bed, and went way too firm. I definitely need to try something closer to what I've been using.
