Moa: The King of Destruction

More efficiency than I'm used to... still useless

Today's Bridge: Kevin and I were partners today against Dan and Ken, and the cards were mostly kind to us. We started big... Dan opened 2D, and Kevin overcalled 3C. With S A-J-10-9-x-x H A-x D A C Q-x-x-x of my own, I was VERY encouraged, so I bid 3S. When Kevin rebid his clubs, I went into Blackwood, and when he had the missing ace of clubs, I put us in slam. It wasn't an easy hand to play, but with some judicious crossruffing, he lost only a spade. Great bidding on my part, great play on his. Unfortunately, we ended up in 3C on the next hand, and the trump split was badly against us. Off three, fortunately undoubled. We rallied and made a 2NT with an overtrick (poor defense, I think... Ken sluffed a spade which set up a long one, and someone sluffed a heart on that trick which set up my hearts), and then Kevin opened 1S when I had something like S x-x-x-x H Q-x-x C A-J-x-x-x-x, so I had to jump to 4S even though we had the partscore. (With a bit more strength, I'd bid 4D instead.) Dan doubled that as usual, and Kevin redoubled. He tried for an overtrick, but it wasn't to be had. It was still more than enough for the rubber. We scored big to start the second rubber, but I don't remember what it was, and it was enough that the opponents needed a slam to win. Thus, when they reached a sensible-sounding 3NT contract, Dan bid them up to 6C, Kevin doubled, and Ken corrected to 6H, which nobody could double. They were off 3, and Kevin pointed out that their diamonds were really weak for notrump, but with S K-J-9-8-x H x-x D x-x-x C x-x-x, there's no reason I'd lead a diamond.

Today's Work: The tech called at around 10 to let me know he was coming to pick up my computer in "a few minutes". He came while I was at lunch, sometime after 11. At least this time he took the computer without me needing to be there. I remembered while I was at work that there was a teleconference tomorrow, so I arranged to do that from an office here in town and just take the rest of the day off. Later in the afternoon, the meeting was rescheduled for Monday, so I switched to leave for the whole day. Of course, if the base is closed tomorrow, I should be able to get administrative leave instead, since I'm no longer scheduled for local travel. I expect that I'm not supposed to get admin leave if I've requested leave already, but I requested the leave BECAUSE I don't expect I'll be able to get to work tomorrow. The section lead already said he's okay with calling it admin leave in that situation, since he hasn't officially approved my leave requests yet. I guess we can call them provisional on the base being open tomorrow. Whatever.

Watching someone play Clock Tower 3 now. It looks interesting, in a way, but not a game I expect I'd get very far in.
