Mor(e )on educational reform

As an addendum to my previous post about the "Troops to Teachers" program John McCain touted at the debate as one of his pet projects for educational reform...

A retired major who sits across from me and is interested in politics points out that the program does not, in fact, put veterans into teaching positions without certifications or examinations. What it does is help to fund the efforts of military retirees to achieve state-approved educational certification and provide financial incentives for them to take jobs at schools with students from low-income families. The program stresses providing high-quality educators and doesn't even help with job placement, aside from providing the usual job-search resources... applicants have to find their own teaching positions. He also claims that the program will pay up to half of the teacher's salary for the first five years, but I can't find that information on the program's website.

So it sounds like a really good program, and doesn't contradict McCain's position of retaining quality teachers. But why is he listing it as a personal success when he doesn't even seem to know what it DOES?

I refuse. *gag*

Happy birthday to fairyjen03... to me, you'll always be fairyjen number 1.

Today's Bridge: I don't even remember exactly what happened. Keith was my partner, and he jump overcalled 3C in one hand, leading me to believe it was a very weak hand, but it was actually really strong, and I only had one little club. Both sides suffered some sets and had some victories.

Today's Work: Some training, some attempts to track down a problem... nothing worked.

Today's Gaming: I played some Quidditch World Cup. That should tell you everything. However, Spoony is now doing a Let's Play of Phantasmagoria 2: A Puzzle of Flesh. Blind. And he figured out how to get the wallet completely on his own. This is absolutely amazing.

After watching the SNL version of last night's debate, I think John McCain should have chosen Joe the Plumber as his running mate.

I've read about half of the first book of NORA... it's as good as the review made it out to be. Some kind of awesome.

Yes, I'm THAT Nidoking. Sometimes I write fanfiction... often I waste all my time playing video games and watching anime. But it's not a waste if I enjoy it, right? I can quote from a movie, video game, anime series, or British comedy apropos of just about any situation, and one of my main goals in life is to entertain people. (The other big one is amassing as much anime and manga as I can... see below for a progress report.) That's me in a nutshell. ("Help! I'm trapped in a nutshell! What a bloody great nutshell this is!")
