Disservice pack 1

Today's Bridge: We started with a pretty cut-and-dry rubber: We made 4S with an overtrick, they made 4H with an overtrick, they made 3NT with an overtrick. So we moved on to a second rubber, where I started by declaring 3NT and making 6, thanks to some interesting fortune. A bit late to start cutting, but I'll do it anyway.Collapse )

Today's Microsoft brilliance: I got the notice to install Vista service pack 1 today, so I said okay. What could go wrong, right? Well, I'll tell you what. The computer wouldn't even boot, and the auto-repair kit failed to fix the damage. Fortunately, it automatically generates a system restore point, and that recovered the system without any problems that I've seen, although I haven't tried to play any games yet. Still... I'm reading a lot online about how great and stable it is, and how nobody's seen any problems yet. Waste of time trying it.

One hour off tomorrow may not be enough... is it two weeks later yet? And will that matter? Stay tuned to find out. My contingency plan is to try to get two weeks straight, possibly the end of August and beginning of September. In that case, I may be able to travel somewhere. I have relatives I can visit, but I might be visiting them at Thanksgiving, in which case, I'm open to going just about anywhere in the country to meet some LJ friends. Close proximity so I can drive is a plus, as is being able to provide lodging so I don't have to stay at a hotel. I'll try to get some details, figure out the plan, and open up for bids if appropriate, but I figured I'd let you know that if you want me to visit, it might be time to start thinking up a pitch. Yeah, I know that invitation meets with about as much enthusiasm as an offer to inject someone with polio, but I expect to feel pretty lonely over the vacation. While I hate travel, I like meeting people.

Yes, I'm THAT Nidoking. Sometimes I write fanfiction... often I waste all my time playing video games and watching anime. But it's not a waste if I enjoy it, right? I can quote from a movie, video game, anime series, or British comedy apropos of just about any situation, and one of my main goals in life is to entertain people. (The other big one is amassing as much anime and manga as I can... see below for a progress report.) That's me in a nutshell. ("Help! I'm trapped in a nutshell! What a bloody great nutshell this is!")
