Today's Bridge: Fortune didn't really favor us, but our opponents did. It seemed as though they got to most of the right contracts, but the splits were against them. Kelly opened 1NT with a singleton ace of diamonds, but that got me into a 4S contract where we had 4-4 spades and 5-3 clubs to top honors - easily made.

Today's Work: More progress at enhancing the functionality we've got, but when I went to help someone with a problem he's been having, he wasn't there. Largely a waste of an hour, I feel.

So the big news story today seems to be an old one. Not only do we have the Wachowski brothers making a live action Speed Racer movie, but M. Night Shyamalamadingdong is directing AND writing the Avatar movie! It's led me to wonder what other directors really shouldn't be making live action movies out of popular anime series... Stephen Spielberg's Fruits Basket would be devoted to a line of plush Zodiac animal toys. George Lucas's Irresponsible Captain Tylor would have Tylor shoot first. Quentin Tarantino's The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya would seem normal by comparison... and would be shown in chronological order anyway. And Peter Jackson's Dragonball Z would have to be split into three thousand ten-hour segments. However, I'm looking forward to the Broken Lizard version of Excel Saga... and Michael Bay's take on Di Gi Charat would be indistinguishable from the real thing. Anyone else have any suggestions? I'm probably going to draw a blank until I find out whether it will be Jackie Chan or Jet Li who gets tapped to play Ranma Saotome.

I've been remiss in posting rants about suggested topics, so it's time to get back in the habit - as long as I don't expect to get any writing done tonight anyway. So, tonight's topic is toast. What the hell is this? I tell you, I've toasted sandwiches so many times, and it's impossible to get the bread just the way I want it. I have a toaster oven, and it's one of those fancy Oster ones with lots of knobs and settings, not the cheap crappy ones that just have on and off settings and maybe a timer. But the toast never comes out evenly toasted. It's always dark at one end and light at the other. It's a CONVECTION oven! That's supposed to distribute heat evenly! And when the toast comes out, it's freaking dry. You've got to drown it in butter before it's edible, and my butter's always hard from sitting in the fridge all the time. How do restaurants deal with this stuff? They're making toast ALL. THE. TIME. That's way too much toast, dude. But there's no way I'd have been able to eat one more turkey and Canadian bacon with mozzarella sandwich unless it was toasted, so I've gotta but up with dry freaking toast. I've lived in deserts with more moisture than that toast. I guess it's a good thing that the condensation makes it soggy by the time I get to eat it.

Yes, I'm THAT Nidoking. Sometimes I write fanfiction... often I waste all my time playing video games and watching anime. But it's not a waste if I enjoy it, right? I can quote from a movie, video game, anime series, or British comedy apropos of just about any situation, and one of my main goals in life is to entertain people. (The other big one is amassing as much anime and manga as I can... see below for a progress report.) That's me in a nutshell. ("Help! I'm trapped in a nutshell! What a bloody great nutshell this is!")
