Bad luck day

We went shopping early in torrential rain because Curt figured it was only going to get worse, based on the forecasts. As soon as we got home, it stopped, only to drizzle a little when we went out for a dinner where we were largely ignored, particularly when we wanted drink refills (when *I* have to wait for a refill, you know it's slow service), the server brought us the check and asked us if we wanted it split without asking if we wanted desserts or a take-home container (I wanted one of each), and then split the appetizer that I'd ordered for myself, but fixed that at the same time she ran our check cards. I brought my own food to the to-go counter to get a container and my dessert, tipped almost as much for the $6 dessert as I had for the $20 meal, and let the staff know that there was a car in the parking lot with its lights on.

Today's Gaming: Running sidequests in Blue Dragon for now. I'm on my way to some black barriers that I know about, but I found a boss that I feel like I should be able to beat, and just can't manage it. I have a few strategies left to try, though.

Today's DVD player swap: The coaxial sound input on my stereo system completely died today, putting a damper on the afternoon. I watched my DVD on the HD player instead (but it lacks upconversion, being the XBox 360 add-on), then let Curt know about the problem to forewarn him that I might have to replace his Christmas present to me with a player that has optical audio instead. He sacrificed his afternoon to try to fix the problem, then gave up and offered to swap players with me. His didn't offer 1080p, which neither of my sets support anyway, but does offer optical audio and at least some degree of resume play, which I've dearly missed. Meanwhile, the coaxial works with his system downstairs, but there was a weird problem with the HDMI pass-through on his video switcher. So he's plugged the player directly to a spare HDMI input on his TV, and except for having to switch TV inputs, it seems to work well enough and give him the full 1080p experience. Not having the sound pipe through HDMI isn't a loss when the medium only supports Dolby or DTS 5.1 anyway, and he can always switch to PCM if he wants to get sound from the TV... I just never bothered with that. I could if I really want to, like when I'm playing a game and want to hear that sound, but I don't combine DVDs with console gaming much anymore.

Yes, I'm THAT Nidoking. Sometimes I write fanfiction... often I waste all my time playing video games and watching anime. But it's not a waste if I enjoy it, right? I can quote from a movie, video game, anime series, or British comedy apropos of just about any situation, and one of my main goals in life is to entertain people. (The other big one is amassing as much anime and manga as I can... see below for a progress report.) That's me in a nutshell. ("Help! I'm trapped in a nutshell! What a bloody great nutshell this is!")
