I had a fun few days of Bridge. Ryan was my partner both days, and he still needs a bit of help, but I think he's grasping the basics of the game. He left me in 2D with a six-card fit when we had a nine-card fit in spades, and I had to capitalize on a giant defensive blunder, but I just made it. I had an easy 3NT after that, and Ryan finished with a straightforward trump contract. Today, he started by making 2D with enough overtricks for a slam, although I don't think we could have bid it, and the opponents sacrificed in 3D off two to keep us out of 2NT, which I think we probably had in the bag. Not a bad sacrifice, honestly. They made 2S, and I don't know whether we had a shot at stopping them, and then I opened 2S with S K-Q-8-x-x-x H x D K-x-x-x C K-x - close to a 1S opener, but I felt the pre-empt was of more value, and I think Ken agreed, because he seemed pretty frustrated. Ryan raised me to 3S with S A-10-x-x H A-8 D x-x-x C A-Q-3-2, and that was the final contract. I'd have bid 4S, but with the partscore, three makes sense. I saw the elimination play right away, so I took the ten of hearts lead with the ace and crossed to the king of trump, both opponents following. That gave me the transportation I needed, so I cashed the queen, then three rounds of clubs, throwing my long diamond while both opponents followed. Then it came down to whether Ken was more likely to have the last club or no heart low enough to leave Dan in the lead. I guessed wrong, ruffing the club and crossing back to the heart in trump. All it cost me was a guarantee of an overtrick, as Dan had the ace of diamonds and my king was assured, but I should have ruffed the heart, then crossed back to dummy and thrown another diamond on the club. When Ken takes it, he either has to lead a diamond to establish my king, or a heart, which allows me to ruff in dummy and throw a third diamond, cutting my diamond losers down to one. By exchanging one of my diamond losers for a club loser, I guarantee an eleventh trick. While I missed my chance, I'm still rather proud of spotting the elimination and playing for it, however poorly.

Meanwhile, work has been busy, now that I can actually get there and get people's attention to get stuff done. It's out of necessity, since I still don't have the forms to work from home, but Brent's kindly been giving me rides even though it means short days, and my lead is going to pick me up on Monday for an important meeting. At least this hopefully won't have to go beyond Tuesday.

Yes, I'm THAT Nidoking. Sometimes I write fanfiction... often I waste all my time playing video games and watching anime. But it's not a waste if I enjoy it, right? I can quote from a movie, video game, anime series, or British comedy apropos of just about any situation, and one of my main goals in life is to entertain people. (The other big one is amassing as much anime and manga as I can... see below for a progress report.) That's me in a nutshell. ("Help! I'm trapped in a nutshell! What a bloody great nutshell this is!")
