Today's Bridge: Dan C. and I were on top of the defense, but the opponents got a couple of game hands and we underbid the one game hand we had. The opponents started with a 3S contract, and I was on opening lead with S J-7-5 H x-x-x-x D A-x C x-x-x-x. I think Dan had opened diamonds, so I led the ace and then the low diamond to his king, under which Jerry threw the queen. Dummy had S 8-x-x H Q-J-10-x D 10-x-x C K-Q-x or thereabouts. Dan led back the jack of diamonds, which Jerry ruffed low and I overruffed. Since Jerry had bid clubs, I thought hearts were more likely to provide another entry, but he took Dan's king with the ace and ran the king of spades to Dan's ace. He had to think about his lead for a long time, but he finally found the killing diamond lead. Had Jerry ruffed with the queen, my jack would be the setting trick, but he threw off, so I ruffed the diamond. Next, I declared 4D with S x-x H x D A-K-J-x-x-x-x C A-J-x facing S A-x-x H K-Q-10-x D Q-10-9-x-x C x. Ken held up the ace of hearts when I led through it, so I made an overtrick, but there's no way it would make game in diamonds, and I don't think either of us could have found the game in notrump with the interference bids. (I opened 1D, Ken doubled, and Dan redoubled. The opponents tried both majors, but we got the upper hand in diamonds.) We had a goulash after that, and Ken got the good hand with nine spades and a heart on the side. I had a great hand next: S A-K-x H A-x-x-x D A-K-Q-J-x-x. I thought maybe we'd forgotten to shuffle and dealt another goulash. I opened 2C, Ken doubled, and Dan responded 2D. I considered jumping, but he might have had no diamonds and garbage, so I just bid 3D. He passed that with the K-Q of hearts and three diamonds to the ten, on which I think we should have found at least the game. We lost the third spade and that was it. Ken pushed for 3H when I was on lead with S A-K-6 H A-2 D J-x-x-x C A-x-x-x, so I led the ace of spades to see the field. Dummy was S 10-x-x-x H Q-J-10-x-x D K-Q-x C x, and I knew Jerry had five hearts. So I had four tricks in hand and needed to find a fifth somewhere. The best hope I could see was cashing the king of spades and leading the last one, hoping that Dan had a doubleton and a heart. He did. They finished the rubber with 4H, though, and we ended the day with a one-hand rubber that I think was a small set in our favor.

Today's Work: We found a fix for the slowdown problem from yesterday - it turns out that there was a speed-up capability in the system that just wasn't being used. We hooked it up, and things ran at about thirty times the speed. So we added that to the release and rebuilt the disc.

I forgot to marinate my chicken tenders yesterday and didn't have time this morning, so I had to do it right before heating them. Then I forgot to make bacon-wrapped jalapeños to go with them. Alas. There's plenty of time this week to make them, especially since I'll have to get to work early tomorrow - they're closing the gate right about the time I usually head home if I'm a bit late to work, so I can't afford it. I could just take off a little early, but it seems silly to do that.

Yes, I'm THAT Nidoking. Sometimes I write fanfiction... often I waste all my time playing video games and watching anime. But it's not a waste if I enjoy it, right? I can quote from a movie, video game, anime series, or British comedy apropos of just about any situation, and one of my main goals in life is to entertain people. (The other big one is amassing as much anime and manga as I can... see below for a progress report.) That's me in a nutshell. ("Help! I'm trapped in a nutshell! What a bloody great nutshell this is!")
