Working from home is nice, but the paperwork is a huge pain

Today's Bridge: Dan C. was busy, so Brent was my partner. Jerry and Dan H. didn't have much to do - they probably had something to work with in the final hand, but I pre-empted 2H, off one. We started strong - I had a 5-5 hand in the black suits, but Brent passed my 3S with 3-3 in those suits and I made it with an overtrick. (I don't remember whether that was certain.) Then he raised my 1NT (S K-Q-x H K-J-x D A-10-x-x C K-Q-x) directly to 3NT with S A-x H x D K-9-x-x C A-x-x-x-x-x - not the most notrump-friendly distribution, but he's got a long minor with entries, so it works well. I took the spade lead with the ace, and when clubs split 2-2, I crossed to the ace and led the heart to the queen and king, which held. That was enough for me, so I crossed to the king of diamonds, ran the clubs, and had to concede only the final trick. Slam is far from biddable. Regrettably, that was the end of our winning streak, as Brent left me in 3C with a singleton - we had a slightly better fit in diamonds (6-1) or spades (4-3, with plenty of tops), but 3NT was likely our best contract. I did my best in clubs, but was off one.

Today's Work: We've decided once again to take on a long-standing problem, so we're making slow progress on it. We also had to package a delivery to another organization, which was my big job for the day. I had to take my computer home and upload it from here, since the work network is too slow to handle files that big. On the bright side, I got home about an hour earlier than I otherwise would have. I just hope the files got there in time. They needed them today, and it was pretty late by the time they finally finished the upload.
