Hoping my health improves, at least

Today's Bridge: The cards definitely went our way today, and we took advantage of them. After giving up a 3H that I don't think we had a chance against, although the defense looked good from my seat, Dan C. opened 1S when I had a strong hand with Q-x-x of support for him. I started with 2D, then jumped from his 2S to 4S. He got the message and found the slam, making it exactly. The opponents made another 3 major and then finished the game, and then it was my turn. I started with S A-10-x-x-x H K-x-x D Q-J-9-8-3. Dan opened 1C, predictably, so I bid 1S. He bid 2C, and Ken jumped in with 2H. I liked my holding, despite the misfit, and bid 3D. He bid 3NT, but I corrected to 4D, which he left with S J-x H A-x-x D 10-7 C A-Q-J-x-x-x. I think correcting back to 4S would have been a good idea, but I can respect leaving the canapé bid in. I think we'd have had trouble in notrump, with little transportation to the hand with the long clubs and too many losers to set up one of my suits. I believe I took the opening heart lead in hand and led a low spade. Dan H. took the queen right away and led a second spade to the jack, king, and ace. I ruffed a low spade (Ken threw a heart), ruffed a club back to my hand, and ruffed another spade, which Ken overruffed with the king. I think he would have been better off overruffing the first time and leading a low diamond back, but I could be wrong. I think he led a club, which ran to the jack while I threw my losing heart, and I ruffed a club back to my hand so I could pull trump. Alas, trump were 4-2 and I'd forced myself by ruffing two clubs, so Dan H. had the last trump for a one-trick set. I'm sure I could have found a better line somehow, but I can't imagine what. I have to lose two diamonds and a spade no matter what, and I can't throw an early loser on the ace of clubs without opening myself up to a force with club leads. Not to mention that if I throw a heart loser on the ace of clubs, I can be forced with hearts as well. I don't think I can start the spades from dummy either, such as by taking the ace instead of the king on the lead. There's no throw-in or endplay that I can see, either, since I can't control who takes which trump trick when. I made up for it on the next hand, though: S x-x H A-Q-x-x-x-x-x D A-x-x C x. I pre-empted 3H and got S x-x-x-x H K-J-10-9 D x-x C J-x-x in dummy. Two spades, a diamond, and a club later, I had nine tricks. We had a cheapie for the next hand, as I opened 1C with S A-9-6 H Q-10-x D K-x C K-x-x-x-x, followed by two passes. Ken balanced with 1S, which I let go. Dan reopened with 1NT, over which Ken bid 2H. I let that go too, and Dan H. bid 2S. Dan C. bid 2NT, which Ken doubled. Fearing the worst, I bid 3C, which prompted 3H from Ken. Dan H. went to 3S, and Dan C. doubled that. I don't remember exactly how the play went, but I took the ace of spades early, signaled in diamonds, got a ruff, and managed to force Ken in clubs at least once. We ended up with two heart tricks as well as the final spade for a four-trick set, not a good result compared to making us work for our 500.

Today's Work: I wasn't feeling well most of the day, and I don't know why. My blood sugar was back in my usual range this morning. I managed to make it through the meetings where we set up our final sprint to the goal line, with everything we absolutely have to get done. It's going to be tight.

My copy of Yooka-Laylee was waiting on my porch when I got home. I thought they wouldn't deliver without a signature, but I'm glad they did, since it saves me a trip to some depot somewhere. Not that I'm in any particular hurry to play the game, but at least I have it and I don't have to worry about why it hasn't shown up yet, because it has.

Yes, I'm THAT Nidoking. Sometimes I write fanfiction... often I waste all my time playing video games and watching anime. But it's not a waste if I enjoy it, right? I can quote from a movie, video game, anime series, or British comedy apropos of just about any situation, and one of my main goals in life is to entertain people. (The other big one is amassing as much anime and manga as I can... see below for a progress report.) That's me in a nutshell. ("Help! I'm trapped in a nutshell! What a bloody great nutshell this is!")
