Today's Bridge: I teamed up with Brent against the Dans, and it was our rubber. Brent started with a 1NT, in which he took six tricks off the top, but didn't arrange a seventh. Then I picked up S A-K-J H K-J-x D K-10-x-x C 10-x-x. When Brent opened 1D, I couldn't think of a better bid than 3NT. I lucked out on the lead - with Brent's S x-x-x H A-Q-x D A-Q-x-x C J-x-x, the diamond lead gave me four diamonds, three hearts, and two spades on top, so I just laid my hand down and claimed. From his S Q-x-x H x-x-x-x D J-x-x-x C Q-9, I think the queen of clubs is the obvious lead - go for partner's long suit with so little potential for entries. The fourth diamond makes some sense, since it's dummy's most likely strong suit, but in this case, the top club lead gives the opponents five tricks off the top. Brent followed with a 4S, and we moved to a new rubber. The opponents started this one with 2D and an overtrick - hearts might have been an interesting contract for our side, but I only had the jack of spades and five hearts to the ten. I had a bit better in the next hand - S A-x-x-x H J D x-x C A-8-6-5-3-2. Brent and Dan C. passed, so I pre-empted with a very dubious 3C, which was passed out. Brent had S K-10-9 H A-10-8-x-x D A-J-10-x C 4. Dan H. started with the queen of hearts, and I saw no reason to duck and waste a board entry. I then ruffed a heart, to which Dan H. followed with the nine. I ducked a club to Dan H.'s nine and Dan C.'s seven, and the nine of spades won the return, much to my surprise. I ruffed a second heart, which was overruffed with the ten. Dan H. persisted with another spade to the ten, queen, and ace. I cashed the ace of trump, pulling one from each opponent (and leaving the queen, so it was unclear who had it), then crossed to the king of spades, on which Dan C. threw a diamond. He then covered the eight of hearts with the king, so I ruffed, and Dan H. let me have it. All I had to do now was cross to the ace of diamonds, and the ten of hearts was worth either a trick or the promotion of my last trump.

Today's Work: What needed to be done pretty much got done. There are some problems, but we haven't identified them, more than demonstrating that some of our computers aren't working properly. We're still at a good spot for moving into next week's sprint.

A Kickstarter payment failed tonight, but the payment went through on a different card. I really hope they didn't cancel my card without telling me. It's not like my bank to do that, but the only other explanation is that they thought the payment was possibly fraudulent. I'll find out tomorrow when I try to pay for something with that card, I guess. I can't call my bank to resolve it until Monday at the earliest, whatever the problem ultimately is.

Yes, I'm THAT Nidoking. Sometimes I write fanfiction... often I waste all my time playing video games and watching anime. But it's not a waste if I enjoy it, right? I can quote from a movie, video game, anime series, or British comedy apropos of just about any situation, and one of my main goals in life is to entertain people. (The other big one is amassing as much anime and manga as I can... see below for a progress report.) That's me in a nutshell. ("Help! I'm trapped in a nutshell! What a bloody great nutshell this is!")
