Today's Bridge: It was an exciting day for sure. The first hand looked impressive, but hardly a blockbuster: S A-Q-10-x-x H J-x D A-Q-8-x-x C Q. I opened 1S, and Dan C. jumped to 3H, always a bad sign. Well, I felt I was worth a 4D, and he bid 5C, not fourth-suit forcing in our convention (and also hardly a good time for the convention at the five level!), so I rebid my diamonds. He raised me to 6D. With his hand, it was practically a laydown: S K-x H A-K-Q-10 D K-9-x C A-J-x-x. The spade lead gave me a free finesse, and I crossed to the king of diamonds to run the nine, since I could pick up a 4-1 split if Ken had the four to my right, but not the other way. If Dan H. has four to the J-10, he just covers my first lead, forcing me up with the king, and his remaining honor is protected, and if he's only got one honor, I can't finesse on the first round because Ken's singleton honor will win. As it was, Dan had four to an honor, so he got it, but I got the rest. Then I made a 2D followed by a 3D with three overtricks - S Q H K-Q-J-x-x D A-J-10-9-8-x C A or so facing S A-J-x-x H A D 5-3-2 C K-x-x-x-x. I opened 1H in third seat, Dan responded 2S, and I bid 3D, which he passed because it was game. Fair enough - if the trump are badly split, we lose two of them, but I won the opening spade lead, crossed to the ace of clubs, back to the ace of hearts, and threw a heart under the king of clubs. Then I finessed the eight of diamonds, and it won. I conceded one of Ken's trump honors, and all I had left were trump and top hearts. The next rubber started with a pair of partscores - the opponents made 3C, and then I got super lucky in a 1NT where I had pretty good spade coverage and almost nothing else. Finally, Ken declared 3S and made it with an overtrick - I think we had a club trick for trick four, but Dan C. led his king into Ken's ace and dummy's queen. If anyone else leads a club, we get one (I had six to the J-10). But we had no way to set the contract.

Today's Work: We finally got everything from the previous sprint squared away, made a build disc to deliver to the testers, then started work on the next sprint only to discover a critical problem due to a typo. So we had to rush that fix through the process (fortunately, we thought ahead and have a specific process for this), make a new disc, and send that out instead. Quite a full day, and the week is still just starting.

I finally got my Lunesta, but I think I'll wait until the weekend to take it. The warnings are pretty ominous, and all of the side effects are things I already have and don't particularly want to be any worse. I'd have to turn in really early to get eight hours, and I'm not supposed to take the medicine right after a meal. These things can't both happen unless it's a weekend. I figure one or two nights of sleep a week should help me catch up, at least, and if it turns out to help me sleep but not impair me too much, I might be able to take it more often.
