Today's Bridge: Jerry was busy on his first day back, so I managed to get a spot. We started with a sensible-seeming 3D that was nevertheless off one, but the opponents went for a 2S and missed it by one thanks to some precise defense, so we came back with a game. I dealt myself a rather amazing hand: S A-K-J-9-8-7-6-5 D K-J-x-x-x. I opened 4S in second seat, naturally, and I got the most accommodating defense possible: the ace of diamonds, followed by a club into dummy's S 2 H x-x-x-x-x C A-K-x-x-x D 10-x. I threw diamonds on the top clubs, then decided that going for a 3-3 diamond split was a better shot than 2-2 trumps and led the ten of diamonds to the queen and king. With the jack established, I decided to go for trump, but Dan H. threw a diamond to my right on the ace. At that point, I could concede the Q-10 of spades - I'd just lead low spades and ruff the returns until Dan C. was out of trump, then cash the jack and claim. Dan C. managed 3C, and Ken and I kept bumping up a sacrifice in hearts until 4H - S K-x H A-x-x-x-x D A-x-x-x C K-x facing S J-x-x H Q-x D Q-x-x C A-J-x-x-x. I don't remember exactly how the play went, but it was only off one, so I was content even though I think 3S should be off one with best defense. They finished by making a 2S where I think we defended perfectly, but there were only five tricks for us.

Today's Work: A busy day of meeting. Just one meeting, but a lot came out of it. We had to plan the next few weeks as a single effort, but there are a few things we still need to finish from the previous sprint, and it wasn't entirely clear what we're supposed to do with that. Tomorrow, we'll work out whether to delay closing the sprint until it's all done or just move the other stuff to the next sprint. At the end of the day, one of my coworkers stopped by to let me know that he had some extra copies of some classic Doctor Who DVDs, but he didn't know which ones. He didn't need to know - I know I already have them.

Setting my alarm early worked, but not as well as intended. I got to work earlier than usual, but not by much. I have no idea what takes me so long that it's almost four hours from waking up to leaving the house. I even just ate a pear with breakfast instead of trying to peel a pomelo.

Yes, I'm THAT Nidoking. Sometimes I write fanfiction... often I waste all my time playing video games and watching anime. But it's not a waste if I enjoy it, right? I can quote from a movie, video game, anime series, or British comedy apropos of just about any situation, and one of my main goals in life is to entertain people. (The other big one is amassing as much anime and manga as I can... see below for a progress report.) That's me in a nutshell. ("Help! I'm trapped in a nutshell! What a bloody great nutshell this is!")
