Today's Bridge: Sam, our new study, joined us for a fairly one-sided day. The opponents underbid a few times, and then I let a 4S slip by when I had the setting tricks in my hand and failed to count to four. We did have a small triumph, though, when Ken sacrificed against a 4S that would have been off at least one. Dan C. opened 1S in third seat and Ken doubled. Sam bid 2S, but with S A H 10-8-x-x-x D J-10-x-x C K-x-x, I figured I'd name my suit with 3H. Dan bid 3S, and Ken bid 4H. Naturally, I let that go, and Dan tried 4S. Ken went for 5H with S K-10-x H A-K-9-x D K-x-x C A-x-x - he'd doubled just in case I bid hearts, and took my bid for a bit stronger than I'd meant it. I got lucky on the opening lead, as Dan led the jack of spades and Sam covered with the queen. That gave me a tiny shot at the contract. I led a low heart to finesse, but Dan covered with the jack and I took the top two, leaving Sam holding the queen. That was perfect. I cashed the two spades, throwing a club and a diamond, then cashed the top clubs and ruffed a club, stripping the hand. Finally, I threw Sam in with a trump, and he led a club. I ruffed in hand and threw a diamond from dummy, then led one of my remaining diamonds. When Dan turned up with the ace, I was home.

Today's Work: One of the problems I thought we'd solved came back, in the form of none of us trusting our users to read the instructions on the disc where we put the solution. So I spent the entire day looking for a way to fix the problem in software. I finally got the first step I'll need working, and now I have to make the rest of the pieces and put them all together. Hopefully, that's just one more day of work. Another problem that we thought we were close to solving has turned out to be nearly intractable. We're still making a determination on "nearly". Lots to do, so little time.

Yes, I'm THAT Nidoking. Sometimes I write fanfiction... often I waste all my time playing video games and watching anime. But it's not a waste if I enjoy it, right? I can quote from a movie, video game, anime series, or British comedy apropos of just about any situation, and one of my main goals in life is to entertain people. (The other big one is amassing as much anime and manga as I can... see below for a progress report.) That's me in a nutshell. ("Help! I'm trapped in a nutshell! What a bloody great nutshell this is!")
