Today's Bridge: Dan H. and I are getting a bit more comfortable with Precision, I think, and we're also getting some decent hands. Between us, we had three 1C openers and a couple of 1NTs. We started with what may have been an underbid slam, but the opponents scored a game in two - a 2C we couldn't defend and a 4C where we had 4S locked, but Dan got cold feet. I opened 1C with S A-K-x-x-x-x H K-Q-x D K-Q-x C 5, and Ken overcalled 3C. I bid 3S to show a solid suit, and Ken bid 4C, raising his own pre-empt. I guess Dan figured he wasn't going to make it, but with four spades to the ten and the ace of hearts, I think it's worth pushing to 4S. They missed 2S by a trick thanks to some brilliant defense and some real guts by my partner, underleading his ace of clubs to find my king so I could lead to a ruff with his last trump for the decisive trick. They tried 2S again, and I was tempted to double, but decided not to risk it. Dan had opened 1NT, and with S A-x-x H 10-9-8-7 D x-x C K-x-x-x, I wasn't strong enough to do anything but pass. Ken doubled in fourth seat, and Dan retreated to 2D. Jerry saved me from having to make a decision by bidding 2H, and I doubled that for penalty. Ken tried 2S, and I thought that was also unlikely to make, but let it go. Off two because of a misguess by Ken, but I don't know whether he would have made it with the right view or just been off one. (Another bit of great defense by me - I ruffed a diamond with the ace of trump to feed partner a heart that he could ruff with the three.) We ended the rubber with 3NT, an easy make on a club lead, and Dan opened 1H in third seat when I held S Q-J-x-x D A-x-x-x-x C Q-x-x-x. I responded 1S, he bid 2D, and I jumped to 4D. My hand is much better with the known fit, and his hand probably gets a bit stronger as well. He declined to raise to game, but ended up making it when Jerry started by trying to cash the top two spades. Dan ruffed the second one and pulled trump, eventually throwing two hearts on the established spades and cashing top clubs.
Today's Work: I spent most of the day testing something that turned out not to work. I don't really understand why, but it's not currently my job to find out.

I managed a bit of an early day, so I came home and cooked some salmon with simple seasonings. Then I put some swordfish steaks to marinate in a white wine and herb sauce - this seems to agree with at least some of the recipes online. That will probably be dinner tomorrow.

Yes, I'm THAT Nidoking. Sometimes I write fanfiction... often I waste all my time playing video games and watching anime. But it's not a waste if I enjoy it, right? I can quote from a movie, video game, anime series, or British comedy apropos of just about any situation, and one of my main goals in life is to entertain people. (The other big one is amassing as much anime and manga as I can... see below for a progress report.) That's me in a nutshell. ("Help! I'm trapped in a nutshell! What a bloody great nutshell this is!")
