Today's Bridge: Raymond joined in because Ken invited him before waiting to see whether Dan H. would show up, and he was my partner. Considering how little he plays anymore, I think he did pretty well. Some decisions I didn't agree with, but he didn't have much to work with most of the day. They made a 3H contract with a 6-0 trump split against them, which i put down to Raymond ruffing the wrong club. He let the master king run, allowing Jerry to sluff a losing diamond from dummy, then ruffed a low club that I could have covered, inviting Jerry to overruff with the ace. We had some good sets too, though, so I enjoyed the day. I'm not sure whether I handled the first auction in the best possible way, though. Raymond opened 1H, and I had S A-K-J-9-8-x-x H 7 D Q-x-x C J-10. I felt that was too strong to jump straight to 4S, so I bid 1S instead. Raymond bid 2H, so I jumped from there to 4S. His S Q-10-x H A-K-x-x-x-x D K-10-x C K was just an ace short of being worth looking for slam, and when Jerry underled his ace of clubs, I got twelve. Maybe 4S would have been a better response, but Raymond hasn't limited his hand at that point and slam isn't out of the question. I think I got across that I had a solid suit and a bit of power as well.
Today's Work: Mostly shuffling online paperwork around, and getting a bit of work in. Now that I know what to do and how to do it, it should go much faster in future sprints.
I also got my appointment to get my CPAP fixed - tomorrow morning, surprisingly. I'm glad I'll hopefully only have to endure one more night of waking up shortly after 3 from a painfully dry throat. It means a late day at work and I had to submit my leave request at the last minute, but I can't put this off any longer.
