Today's Bridge: It was a good day for defense - after the opponents made a 3C and I just made a 2H pre-empt, neither side made another contract. I had another go at 2H with S x-x-x H A-K-x-x-x D Q-x-x C x-x facing S A-x-x H 10-x-x D J-x C K-Q-J-10-x - Jerry started with the king of spades, and I let it run, because he'd opened spades and obviously had five of them. Unfortunately, he switched to a club to Dan H.'s ace, and Dan returned a club for a ruff with the jack. A diamond back should have been my opportunity to ruff high and pull Jerry's queen, but I threw a spade instead and ended up losing another diamond for off one. I'm still not sure that taking the ace at trick one was objectively a better play, but it would have worked in this case. Jerry passed to start the next auction - Ken opened 1H, Dan H. pre-empted 3S, and with K-Q-10 in his suit and five clubs to the K-J, plus some heart honors, I bid 4C in anticipation of ending in 4H. But Jerry bid 4D and Ken and Dan passed, so despite my weak doubleton, I doubled out of principle. Jerry predictably corrected to 4S, and Ken doubled that. We ended up setting them two, so I think it was worth it. We traded a few more hands before the grand finale - Ken opened 1H again and Dan overcalled 3S. This time, I had S J-10-x H J-10-x D A-J-10-x-x C K-x, which I felt was just barely worth pushing to 4D. This time, they let Ken return to 4H. He had, I believe, S A-x H A-K-x-x-x-x D x-x C A-Q-x. I can't remember what the opponents' fourth trick was, but he missed the heart finesse and lost a diamond and a spade. Afterward, we determined that the correct play in hearts was to cash the ace, then cross to dummy and lead the jack, ducking if Jerry plays low. If the opposing hearts split 2-2, then we should be able to eliminate the minors and throw Dan H. in with a spade to secure either an extra spade trick or a ruff and sluff. I'm pretty sure I got Ken's distribution wrong somehow, because looking at the hands as I've laid them out, I can't find a fourth trick to lose. If he's got an extra club, he can ruff that with my last trump if the split is 2-2. As it was 3-1, he would have picked up the suit without loss.

Today's Work: I finally managed to get my plans settled, which required calling a few people to get things corrected. It went surprisingly well once I'd actually made the calls. I also attempted to get the windshield repair scheduled, but I didn't get that done. Tomorrow, I'll have the actual time of my therapy appointment on Thursday and can schedule around it.

I think I ate too much fajita, but I'm trying to use up all of my perishable food, so it doesn't matter much whether I cook it before throwing it away.

Yes, I'm THAT Nidoking. Sometimes I write fanfiction... often I waste all my time playing video games and watching anime. But it's not a waste if I enjoy it, right? I can quote from a movie, video game, anime series, or British comedy apropos of just about any situation, and one of my main goals in life is to entertain people. (The other big one is amassing as much anime and manga as I can... see below for a progress report.) That's me in a nutshell. ("Help! I'm trapped in a nutshell! What a bloody great nutshell this is!")
