Today's Bridge: Ken and I came out on top, probably in part because Brent still hasn't learned to pull trump early. We got a few early ruffs in a couple of contracts, and Dan C. jumped straight to game with a really strong hand, causing them to miss what looked like an easy slam. I undervalued a hand a little and we ended up in 2NT, making four, but I thought 3 was a big risk. I finished the game with a 1NT opener: S A-x-x-x H A-Q-x-x D A-9-x C A-x. Unfortunately, all Ken had was S Q-x-x H x-x-x D Q-J-10-x C 10-x-x. Fortunately, Brent led a heart. I don't think there's a way I can get the three diamond tricks I need if an opponent holds up the king until the third round, but I elected to start with a low one, planning to take the ace if it held and hope for the king doubleton. It was, and Brent wisely took it on the third round and led a club, but too late. The last hand was a bit of a disaster - I had H A-8-x-x-x-x D J-x C Q-10-9-8-x, and Ken opened 1S. I decided notrump was a bad bid and pushed to 2H. He jumped straight to 3NT, but I still felt that was a bad idea and made the only bid that made sense in the circumstances - 4C. Sadly, he took that as Gerber even though we'd both limited our hands, and I had to pretend our 4NT-5C-5H sequence was natural even though I knew it wasn't. His S A-K-J-x-x H 9-7 D A-x-x C A-x-x wasn't the worst possible holding, but it left me with two certain hearts to lose, and with Brent holding the K-J-x-x of clubs, there was no way I could pull the suit in without losing one. Fortunately, that's all I lost in the end.

Today's Work: I finally got around to doing some things that I've been needing to do, and the effort that's largely out of my hands is also moving along again. Lots to do, and even more to keep an eye on and be aware of without really getting my hands too dirty. Yet.

Dinner wasn't too good - maybe I'm relying on the Kroger deli counter too much. I'll have to be less lazy about dinners the rest of the week and actually make something. I've got two tubs of Philly cheese steak mix for fajitas, though, and this time, I even got real fajita seasoning. Can't hurt to try it.

Yes, I'm THAT Nidoking. Sometimes I write fanfiction... often I waste all my time playing video games and watching anime. But it's not a waste if I enjoy it, right? I can quote from a movie, video game, anime series, or British comedy apropos of just about any situation, and one of my main goals in life is to entertain people. (The other big one is amassing as much anime and manga as I can... see below for a progress report.) That's me in a nutshell. ("Help! I'm trapped in a nutshell! What a bloody great nutshell this is!")
