Glad the week is almost over

Today's Bridge: Mixed results, largely my fault. With S 9-7 H x D K-Q-J-9-8-7-x C A-K-x and a response in spades from Dan C., I pushed to 5D over the opponents' 4H. Dan unsurprisingly had S K-J-10-8-x-x-x H Q-x-x-x C x-x, so I don't think we're going to make five of anything and the opponents might well not be able to make 4H, but it seemed like the best call at the time. Off two undoubled wasn't completely awful. Then we made a game in two hands, one of which made grand slam on a couple of finesses, followed by a disappointing 3H - Dan opened 1C when I had S Q H A-x-x-x-x D x-x-x C A-x-x-x or so, so I bid 1H and he jumped to 3H. I should have raised to game, but with the vulnerability, I chose not to. I made a few overtricks. That gave the opponents a chance to catch up with 5S that made an overtrick, although Dan had two aces and doubled a Blackwood bid to indicate one of them, so they wouldn't have made the slam. In the final hand, Dan H. opened 2D, followed by two passes to my S Q-10-x H K-J-x-x D A-9 C A-x-x-x, so I doubled. Dan C. bid 2S, and Ken cut in with 3H. I let that go, as did the other two. I led the low spade into S x-x H 10-x D K-Q-J-x-x-x C Q-x-x. Dan C. took the ace and returned a low spade to Ken's king, and Ken ruffed his third spade and led the ten of hearts, covering with the ace. He followed with a low heart to my jack, and I cashed the ace of clubs and led a low club to eliminate dummy entries so he couldn't set up and run the diamonds. I had to think about ducking the king of diamonds, but there was no point - when I returned my low diamond, dummy was dead. I ruffed the inevitable diamond lead and still had the king for off two. Not doubled, but I don't think we could have doubled 4D, and that's only off one, maybe two, if we defend well.

Today's Work: I've started working on a documentation piece that I'd left for someone else to do. I think he's having trouble getting started, so I'm going to give him something to work with if he needs it. We really need to get this done.

Yes, I'm THAT Nidoking. Sometimes I write fanfiction... often I waste all my time playing video games and watching anime. But it's not a waste if I enjoy it, right? I can quote from a movie, video game, anime series, or British comedy apropos of just about any situation, and one of my main goals in life is to entertain people. (The other big one is amassing as much anime and manga as I can... see below for a progress report.) That's me in a nutshell. ("Help! I'm trapped in a nutshell! What a bloody great nutshell this is!")
