Today's Bridge: We underplayed the first few hands - I had a minimum opening and Ken was bidding weak, eventually stopping at 2S with 5-5 distribution in the majors, which I think is worth an invitation to game, at least. I think 4H was doable, and we certainly made 4S. Ditto a later hand where he opened 1H and I had all of a jack to my name. Also six clubs, but I wasn't going to bid 2C on that. The opponents bid up to 4H when I had S x-x H K D K-J-x-x-x-x C A-K-Q-x, and I think I should have bid 5C, having bid diamonds twice. It just seemed too flimsy to push on with that hand. In the end, we lost that rubber, but I was proud of the last hand. I had S A-Q-x-x H J-10 D K-x C K-x-x-x-x. Ken opened 1C, and I considered jumping in clubs, but I opted to bid a conservative 1S and show my power later. Kevin balanced with 2H, and Ken bid 2S, so I jumped to 4S. His S K-J-x-x H Q-x-x D J-x-x C A-Q-x offers the opponents four tricks off the top if Kevin leads a heart from his five to the king - even if he leads the king, my holding will be pretty obvious because I can't possibly falsecard from that holding, so it's an easy matter to cross to Dan C.'s ace and get a diamond lead back to his A-Q. Fortunately, he led a club, so I took it, started with my top spades to leave the last one in dummy as an entry if needed, and when they split 3-2, I was home. I ran the clubs, sluffing two diamonds from dummy to knock myself down to an acceptable number of losers, then ran the ten of hearts. Somehow, it held, giving me an overtrick. Okay? What I think is interesting about the hand is that while 4S makes if I get lucky with the lead, 4C is pretty much impossible because we only have nine tricks available in the black suits, since the spades will only be good for four. We have to try to set up the slow trick in hearts, and we'll lose four red tricks before we get there unless Kevin has both heart honors or doesn't have both diamond honors, neither of which were true.

Today's Work: An entire day wasted trying once again to establish a connection through a proxy. I have one last-ditch thing I can try, but I don't expect it to work. We have a workaround we might be able to implement, but it will be a pain and won't be very smooth with respect to our processes. Oh well. We do what we have to do.

Yes, I'm THAT Nidoking. Sometimes I write fanfiction... often I waste all my time playing video games and watching anime. But it's not a waste if I enjoy it, right? I can quote from a movie, video game, anime series, or British comedy apropos of just about any situation, and one of my main goals in life is to entertain people. (The other big one is amassing as much anime and manga as I can... see below for a progress report.) That's me in a nutshell. ("Help! I'm trapped in a nutshell! What a bloody great nutshell this is!")
