Today's Bridge: I really screwed up today. I played everything about as badly as I could have and lost a 3NT that was probably hopeless to an entry problem (I couldn't afford a safety play, but I ended up losing the trick anyway where a safety play would have let me cash the winners) and a 4S that's worth examining because I had the right idea, but backwards. I had S A-Q-9-5-3 H K-9 D K-J C A-Q-x-x or something close, so I opened 1S, Dan C. responded 2S, and I jumped to 4S. He had just S 8-6-4 H x-x-x D A-10-x C K-x-x-x, but it should have been enough. Kevin led the ten of spades and Ken threw the two, so I took the queen and figured that the trump split must be 4-1. But I thought Kevin had the four spades, which was stupid in retrospect. With K-J-10-7, why would he lead the ten? Why would he lead a trump at all with three likely natural trump tricks in hand? The only non-singleton holding he could possibly have where the ten would make sense is 10-7, and even then, he'd probably pick a different suit. With K-10-7, it's likely he'll get two tricks, so he wouldn't lead trump. With K-J-10 or even J-10, he'd lead the jack if anything. In any case, the correct play was to lead the eight from the board and run it unless Ken covered. Even if Kevin still had an honor to cover it with, that would leave just one honor which would fall to the ace. If Ken covers the eight, I take the ace, cross back to dummy, and lead the last spade toward my nine through his remaining honor-seven. In any split, the defense gets only one trump trick, unless Kevin really did have K-J-10-7, in which case they get two no matter what, so that case isn't worth worrying about. Losing two hearts and a trump is enough to bring the contract home. Instead, I took one of the opportunities leading from the board to lead toward my king of hearts, and I'm pretty sure I lost it anyway. I botched the defense in a few contracts as well.

Today's Work: We re-divided the work since I've finished my part and nobody else had started theirs. I took a bunch more line items, which turned out to be really simple because most of them fit a couple of simple patterns. Then I spent the afternoon doing training.

Dinner was a fish "fillet" that had a bunch of bones in it, meatballs, and salad. Needless to say, I ate a lot of salad.

Yes, I'm THAT Nidoking. Sometimes I write fanfiction... often I waste all my time playing video games and watching anime. But it's not a waste if I enjoy it, right? I can quote from a movie, video game, anime series, or British comedy apropos of just about any situation, and one of my main goals in life is to entertain people. (The other big one is amassing as much anime and manga as I can... see below for a progress report.) That's me in a nutshell. ("Help! I'm trapped in a nutshell! What a bloody great nutshell this is!")
