Today's Bridge: Dan H. had plans, so Doreen sat in with the rest of us, but when he showed up after the first hand had been dealt, she left again. Oh well. We made game on the first hand, and then I picked up the hand that pretty much dominates my memories of the day: S A-Q-10-8-x-x-x H A-7-6-x-x D 7. You can probably already guess the final contract, right? Five hearts, obviously. Well, that's what I suspected would happen, even before Bruce (RHO) opened 2C. The only way I thought I had a chance of showing my distribution was to start with 3S, and Dan bid 4D. Bruce went to 5C, and I naturally bid 5H to finish describing my hand and announce my intention to sacrifice in five of a major. Ken passed with S J-9 H Q-J-8-x D Q-x-x C x-x-x-x, and five hearts looks like a decent shot, right? Well, the opening lead was the obviously singleton king of spades, saving me from the losing finesse, and with no entries to dummy, I had little choice but to lay down the ace of hearts. Bruce supplied the king, giving me all thirteen tricks. I've been wondering whether the king of spades was the right lead, given the likelihood of a finesse against it, but the chances of getting a spade ruff are pretty good. Bruce might have the ace of spades (although would I have bid the way I did with seven to nothing higher than the queen?), or he might have the ace or king of hearts and be able to give a ruff before Dan runs out of trump. He's got to count on Bruce for at least one trick, given the strong opener, but most of Bruce's power was tied up in clubs, which were useless as the hand played out. We were set a few times after that, usually to our advantage, but we made one more game to stay ahead in the end and doubled their valiant but doomed attempt at 5C.

Today's Work: It was nice to get back to actual work, but as usual, there are a couple of things that are going to take a lot of research. I'll be starting that tomorrow, I suppose.

I made pizza tonight, with the first of the ultra thin wheat crusts. It turned out mostly okay, but I think the crust burned because I brushed oil on it, and it was greasier than it needed to be because I didn't drain the chorizo properly. I've got enough left to try again tomorrow, and I figure I probably will. My stomach pain didn't return, but I also didn't eat any carrots or celery. I didn't really have time this morning to prepare them. Perhaps tomorrow I'll give the vegetables another go.

Yes, I'm THAT Nidoking. Sometimes I write fanfiction... often I waste all my time playing video games and watching anime. But it's not a waste if I enjoy it, right? I can quote from a movie, video game, anime series, or British comedy apropos of just about any situation, and one of my main goals in life is to entertain people. (The other big one is amassing as much anime and manga as I can... see below for a progress report.) That's me in a nutshell. ("Help! I'm trapped in a nutshell! What a bloody great nutshell this is!")
