Today's Bridge: Bruce joined us to make a foursome, and we still have trouble getting him to bid when he has any power at all, despite watching his partner miss contract after contract because they don't have a fit. We try. We even did a goulash, and I forgot the fundamental rule of goulashes: "Never declare a goulash." Off four is pretty standard for me in those things, and yet I still love playing them. At least Ken and I had one great hand: Dan H. opened 2H, Ken doubled, and Bruce raised to 3H. With S A-x-x-x-x H Q-x D x-x-x C J-x-x, I bid 3S to tell Ken where my length was. He jumped to Blackwood, and over my 5D response, he bid 5H searching for the queen of trump. I bid 5S to tell him I didn't have it, and he passed. Perhaps I should have bid 6S, but I was REALLY weak. It's a good thing we stopped short: With Ken's S K-J-10-x-x D K-Q-x-x-x C A-K-x, I have two unavoidable diamond losers and one club loser I can only get rid of on a diamond, and the queen of spades is also a risk. Fortunately, the queen fell under my ace on the first round of spades and the diamonds split, so I only lost the two diamonds and made the contract. Ken and I even played Laventhal discards on defense, although I usually had a pretty good idea how to defeat the contracts by the time he got to discard and I usually didn't have anything good to signal.

Today's Work: A very rough day. We wanted to do a simple merge in the repository, but someone wanted me to do a quick update first. Somehow, that update destroyed the entire checkout, and we spent the rest of the day trying to get it back while we tried to get another computer set up to do the build. We didn't manage to finish any of those things. Guess I'll have to try checking out a fresh copy tomorrow.

I called in a refill for a prescription this afternoon, and it was already ready when I got home. I was expecting a few days. But I also got a letter saying that they've been trying to call me. I've had no calls from them. I guess trying to get them to call my cell phone wasn't a good idea after all.

Yes, I'm THAT Nidoking. Sometimes I write fanfiction... often I waste all my time playing video games and watching anime. But it's not a waste if I enjoy it, right? I can quote from a movie, video game, anime series, or British comedy apropos of just about any situation, and one of my main goals in life is to entertain people. (The other big one is amassing as much anime and manga as I can... see below for a progress report.) That's me in a nutshell. ("Help! I'm trapped in a nutshell! What a bloody great nutshell this is!")
