Yeah, guys and their technology

I had some fun today. We needed to go out to buy some things at Best Buy, and while we were there, I found cartridges of Ocarina of Time 3D, which has been all but impossible to find even online. I figured that while I was getting that, I might as well take a look at their desktop computers. Probably not as good as something I could assemble myself, but much lower-effort to get the desired result, and almost certainly better than what I've got now. As is always the case, they had some good-looking ones on sale that ended today, so I decided to get an HP Envy 750-114 - likely not the top end of the technology curve, but it's got the connections I need and plenty of hard drive space and memory. I figure I'll spend some time either tomorrow or during the week (or maybe even after Christmas) setting it up while keeping my current desktop up enough to see what I'll need to install on the new one to make a permanent replacement. I'm hoping there will be space to install my current large drive in the new computer and carry over my files directly, and I should be able to copy the relevant stuff from the smaller drives to it and bring that over as well, or just set it in an external sled and copy whatever I need after the fact. It's mostly some stuff in the Program Files directory like custom Avisynth filters and scripts. I assume I'll be reinstalling most of the programs from scratch, and looking into the latest versions of programs like DOSBox and VirtualDub that I've been using for ages without upgrading them. Then I'll have to check out all of the current hardware I've got connected to see what programs I have to find and install. If it can play Youtube videos in 1080p smoothly, I'll consider it a success no matter what else it may be lacking. Things like running capture or streaming software while playing games would be an excellent bonus. And of course, it should be much faster at encoding and editing video, which will be nice. All in all, it's another one of those big expenses that should improve my quality of life a bit, and it's less big than it would have been at any other time. I expect I'll be pretty happy with it.

Yes, I'm THAT Nidoking. Sometimes I write fanfiction... often I waste all my time playing video games and watching anime. But it's not a waste if I enjoy it, right? I can quote from a movie, video game, anime series, or British comedy apropos of just about any situation, and one of my main goals in life is to entertain people. (The other big one is amassing as much anime and manga as I can... see below for a progress report.) That's me in a nutshell. ("Help! I'm trapped in a nutshell! What a bloody great nutshell this is!")
