Well, I think I've figured out what's been going on all this time, and it's both deceptively complicated and embarrassingly simple. Obviously, the flu vaccine caused insomnia, but the few people who have accepted that it's possible (most sources still say the flu vaccine can't possibly cause insomnia) have said that it should only last a few days. I think it did. I got a little bit of sleep that Thursday night, anyway. But then the Effexor kicked in and has also been causing insomnia. It's a coincidence that that started just as the first bout was winding down, but the timeline fits and explains just about everything. I don't know why the flu vaccine would cause insomnia for me, and it's entirely possible that it might be due to the interactions between that and one of the serotonin-boosting medicines, but either way, I started weaning off Effexor today, and it will take most of a week to complete that. I'm expecting to be able to get back to sleep soon, and the cold will hopefully be gone within a day or two - my nose is completely clear now, and it's just my lungs that seem to have any congestion left. I still plan to see the doctor at the appointed time, whatever my condition, just to discuss what's happened and figure out what's likely to happen in the future. If I'm going to need Ambien before getting another flu shot, it'll be good to know. At least I'm finally optimistic that I'll be sleeping again soon.

Yes, I'm THAT Nidoking. Sometimes I write fanfiction... often I waste all my time playing video games and watching anime. But it's not a waste if I enjoy it, right? I can quote from a movie, video game, anime series, or British comedy apropos of just about any situation, and one of my main goals in life is to entertain people. (The other big one is amassing as much anime and manga as I can... see below for a progress report.) That's me in a nutshell. ("Help! I'm trapped in a nutshell! What a bloody great nutshell this is!")
