Always doing things too late to be useful

Today's Bridge: Nobody used any of the new conventions today, but I don't think we had an opportunity to use any of them anyway. There were a couple of underbid hands on my side, I think - I had a spade void and found a fit in Jerry's clubs, but since we already had a partscore and he'd limited his hand, I didn't push too hard and we played a hand in 3C that looked cold for grand slam. Oh well. I had a much more impressive hand for the final one - S A-K-Q-x-x H A D K-J-x C A-x-x-x. Jerry opened 3H, so I bid a forcing 3S. He bid 4D, which told me everything I needed to know, and I bid 5NT, asking him to choose a slam. He passed on S 6 H K-J-x-x-x-x-x D A-x C Q-x-x, which is a pretty dynamite holding for a pre-empt. When Kevin led a diamond, I was pretty much home free - I cashed the ace of hearts and crossed to the queen of clubs, then decided to lead a low heart just in case they split 3-0, which was a poor play on my part. The queen was indeed singleton, so Dan C. took it and led back a spade, wisely removing an exit card from dummy. I took it, crossed to the ace of diamonds, and still had the ace of clubs and a top spade once I'd run the hearts. If I play the hearts properly, I'm pretty sure it makes the grand slam, at least on the diamond lead. I get seven hearts, three diamonds, and three spades. Jerry also correctly interpreted a double when Dan opened 1S, I overcalled 2D, Kevin responded 2S, and Jerry and Dan passed. I doubled for a reopen - I had S x-x H A-K-x D A-Q-x-x-x C K-x-x, so I was willing to play in any suit he could name at the three level. He did indeed bid 3D, and Dan bid 3S. They made it exactly, and I don't think we had a way to stop them, but I stand by my double.

Today's Work: The A/C was out in my building, so I was happy to spend some time in the tower with a breeze. I finally got to test what I've been working on with real devices and an actual view, and after cleaning up a few calculation errors I had, it worked pretty well. I didn't get to spend a lot of time working due to administrative stuff, but it was a good start.

I called the doctor's office today to try to move my appointment up, but I haven't heard from them yet. Hopefully sometime this week. They may be able to help me get off Celexa without me actually needing to be there in person - such as calling in a new prescription at a lower dosage I can take.
