So many notifications of nothing. This isn't Blue Dragon! Ooh, I should play that...

Today's Bridge: Kevin and I teamed up against Dan C. and Ken, and usually, we'd be a powerhouse. Today, I don't think we quite played our best. The swing hand was a 3H Rdbl by the opponents - I thought about taking it out, but all I had was a singleton heart and A-K-x-x-x of clubs. At least we made all of our contracts, including one where I just couldn't bid as weak as I was. I had S Q-x-x-x-x-x D J-x-x C Q-9-x-x, so when Kevin opened 1H, I had to bid 1S. I considered 4S, but weak seemed the better option. He jumped to 3S, and while I was tempted to pass, I was pretty sure we had game. I also considered 3NT in an effort to show that I didn't even want to go to the four level, but I figured 4S was the weakest non-pass bid available. He naturally invited slam with 5S, but I passed that in a hurry. His hand was the impressive S K-10-x-x H A-K-x-x-x D A-Q-x-x, so things looked good, but I was going to lose at least one spade and if I crossruffed too soon, I'd probably lose three. The opening lead was the ace of clubs, so I ruffed and threw two diamonds on the hearts, then led a low spade to the queen and ace. Dan led a diamond, so I took the ace, ruffed a heart, ruffed a club with the ten, ruffed a diamond back, and led the queen of clubs. Had Dan covered it, I couldn't possibly make the contract, because I'd have had to ruff with the king, leaving the jack as the master trump and a club in my hand still to lose, but he let it go, so I conceded one trick and made the contract. In retrospect, ruffing without pulling trump was probably the better plan, since Dan likely had fewer clubs and could safely be overruffed as I went along. Provided that I ruffed all four clubs, I'd have one trump left to lead at the end, and a 2-1 split should leave me with no more than two losers in spades. Worst(?) case, he ruffs with the ace and leads a spade, which eliminates a club loser entirely and leaves me losing only one spade. I still end up with two hearts, a diamond, three or four spades in dummy, and at least four spades from my hand. I don't think I can possibly be overruffed three times.

Today's Work: I got three new tasks and completed one of them. The other two will be a lot more complicated, so I'm taking my time.

And the news about my guest is still up in the air for now. We'll just have to see how that plays out, although if we don't find out soon, they probably won't be traveling this weekend.

Since it was an early work day, I should have time to do commentary tonight. I never do, but I should.
