Today's Bridge: I was rather surprised that only four people showed up. Dan H. and I swept the rubber in a quick pair of 5D contracts. I had 11 and A-x of diamonds in the first one, but when he bid 1D, jumped to 3D, and went back to 4D while I bid my biddable suits, I raised him to game and he made it. The opponents got a 3C where I don't think there was any defense - I got the three heart tricks I could and led to Dan's ace of spades, and Ken claimed the rest. Then I picked up H 7 D K-9-x-x-x-x C K-8-x-x-x-x. It wasn't even a goulash. Despite the vulnerability, I bid 2D, and Dan H. jumped straight to 5D. Ken doubled, and I considered bidding slam or redoubling, but neither felt like a good idea. Sadly, with Dan's S K-Q-10 H 10-x-x D A-J-10-x-x C A-Q, slam is cold and with Ken holding the ace of spades, the grand is guaranteed on any lead but a heart. The lead was a trump and they split 1-1, so I crossed to the queen of clubs, led the king of spades to the ace and a ruff, crossed back to the ace of clubs to shed my heart on the established queen of spades, and claimed on a crossruff. If Dan C. had had the ace, that would be their only trick, and if he leads a heart, then I just ruff all three spades. The only thing that can threaten 6D is a 5-0 club split and a club lead before I can pull trump. The second rubber started with Dan H. opening 2H and Ken overcalling 3D. With four solid diamonds and plenty of power on the side, Dan C. passed that, and it made grand slam, probably guaranteed. I'm sure they'd have found it if he'd raised. They finished that game and got another 3D, and then I started bidding on 11s and 9s just to keep them out of cheap rubber contracts. It worked better than expected, as they ended up in 3D off two, 3S off three, and 4H off one. I didn't double because they looked makeable from my perspective, but that made it a close rubber with their game bonus thrown in.

Today's Work: I alternated between testing the changes I made yesterday and working on a new task that seemed like a bad idea to me but is arguably good UI design if we can pull it off. The implementation looks a bit clunky if we update a pull-down list while it's open, but that should be rare and it still functions, and it looks fine if we close it and reopen it. Otherwise, I want to test it more thoroughly before calling it finished, because it really is complex and has the potential to break things. That's probably true of most programming, but this is a change to a very recent feature as it is.

I had plenty of time tonight but decided to spend it watching videos. The three-day weekend should give me plenty of time to work on Psychonauts, including commentary for the final episode I've recorded so far and recording more of the game, perhaps the remainder. I can edit that during the week, most likely.

Yes, I'm THAT Nidoking. Sometimes I write fanfiction... often I waste all my time playing video games and watching anime. But it's not a waste if I enjoy it, right? I can quote from a movie, video game, anime series, or British comedy apropos of just about any situation, and one of my main goals in life is to entertain people. (The other big one is amassing as much anime and manga as I can... see below for a progress report.) That's me in a nutshell. ("Help! I'm trapped in a nutshell! What a bloody great nutshell this is!")
