Today's Bridge: We had people, but I don't remember many of the hands. The opponents got two games that we had no chance to defend, and I passed a 1S with something like S Q-x-x H Q-x-x-x D J-x-x-x C Q-x - probably for the best, since we only made exactly 1S. Pulling trump might have cut off the crossruff early. I remember about half of the defense in the final 3S - I think I had S J-x-x-x H 10-x-x-x D J-x-x C x-x and dummy was S K-Q-x-x-x H J-8-x-x D A-x C x-x-x. I believe Paul started with the ace of hearts, pulling Dan's king, then switched to a club that Dan covered. He crossed to the board with the ace of diamonds and ruffed a heart, cashed the ace of spades (giving me a guaranteed spade trick), cashed the king and queen of spades, led the eight of hearts (which I carefully covered with the ten so Dan couldn't throw off a loser, pull the queen, and have the good jack) and lost the queen of diamonds to Paul's king. Paul led another diamond into the board's void, and Dan threw the heart instead of ruffing, allowing me to win the jack. I think that was a mistake and he should have crossruffed for the final two tricks he needed - even if I overruff (which I can't), that leaves him a heart ruff and a club ruff with his last two trump that we can't stop. As it was, I ran the jack of spades to pull Dan's last trump and leave one on the board, as well as giving us our fourth trick, then led my last heart, forcing Dan to ruff with dummy's last trump. He was then forced to lead a club around to Paul's tenace for a two-trick set. Well-defended, I call it, and I particularly liked Paul's diamond lead when he could have led a heart instead and let Dan ruff with his last trump, or cashed a top club and probably given them the contract with an extra club as well as the crossruff.

Today's Work: I finally got a new assignment, and it's huge. Very long documents huge. I doubt most of them will apply, and I'm pretty sure the procedure I need to write is really simple because we're missing the specific piece of equipment that would make it complicated, but I still haven't ever worked with this sort of thing before.

I introduced my guest to Red Dwarf today, and I think they enjoyed it. We'll need to watch more - it's one series I don't mind watching any number of times.

Yes, I'm THAT Nidoking. Sometimes I write fanfiction... often I waste all my time playing video games and watching anime. But it's not a waste if I enjoy it, right? I can quote from a movie, video game, anime series, or British comedy apropos of just about any situation, and one of my main goals in life is to entertain people. (The other big one is amassing as much anime and manga as I can... see below for a progress report.) That's me in a nutshell. ("Help! I'm trapped in a nutshell! What a bloody great nutshell this is!")
