Today's Bridge: We had a surprising number of absences among our players, so I took the chance to invite one of the new players, Matt, to join us. Twice, I considered raising a minor game to slam and decided against it, then ended up making it. The first one was 5C with S A-Q-x-x-x H A-x-x C A-Q-J-x-x facing S J-x H K-9-x-x D Q-x-x C K-x-x-x. I opened 1S and the unopposed auction continued 2H-4C-5C. The slam would have hinged on the spade finesse, which was on, but Matt decided to throw the J-10 of hearts under the A-K, holding on to the seven, so the nine was trick 13. He's learning. Then Dan H. opened 1D, Matt doubled, and with S K H K-J-10 D K-Q-10-x-x C A-J-x-x or so, I supported him with our artificial 2NT bid. The opponents passed while we cue-bid 3H-4C, and then Dan jumped right to 5D. I considered a raise to slam again, but had to trust my partner, since he'd denied the ace of spades. In fact, he had it, and the only trick we lost was the ace of trump. Had he bid 4S, I'd have bid Blackwood, and when he bid only the two aces he'd already promised, I would leave it at 6D. Paul ended things with a 3S opener that got three overtricks, but it wouldn't have made slam - I'd have taken the ace of hearts on the lead and led back a diamond to my partner's ace for the set. As it was, he established the board's very long clubs and pitched his diamonds. With S Q-x-x H 9 D K-Q-x C A-K-J-10-9-x, I figured Matt's holding was worth either a 4C to force 4S, or just 4NT to explore slam and stopping short in 5S when he found two missing aces.

Today's Work: I managed to figure out why the merges I tried to do yesterday didn't work and found an easier way to get it done. I got started on the process of improving the functionality now that it's all merged, but I have a lot to do for that.

I made fresh rice to go with my leftover stir-fry tonight, but the sauce didn't really cover the rice. I think I'll just need to make extra rice in the future and plan to reheat it along with the meat and vegetables - if I have leftovers at all.

Yes, I'm THAT Nidoking. Sometimes I write fanfiction... often I waste all my time playing video games and watching anime. But it's not a waste if I enjoy it, right? I can quote from a movie, video game, anime series, or British comedy apropos of just about any situation, and one of my main goals in life is to entertain people. (The other big one is amassing as much anime and manga as I can... see below for a progress report.) That's me in a nutshell. ("Help! I'm trapped in a nutshell! What a bloody great nutshell this is!")
