Today's Bridge: We had a small crowd, and I got a seat. We started with a 2NT with an overtrick - I could have bumped it up, but I'd bid about as much as I could, and I didn't even pay attention to the rest of the hand. The opponents made enough overtricks for a game on their next hand, and then I picked up S 10 H A-8-x D A-K-10-x-x C K-Q-J-6. I don't remember who opened, but I'm pretty sure Dan C. as my partner would have opened 2H if he could, so I believe Ken started with 1S. I wanted to overcall in diamonds, but settled for a takeout double. Jerry passed, and Dan unsurprisingly bid 2H. Ken bid 2S, and I went for 3D, since Dan could correct back to hearts if his suit was good and he didn't have diamonds. I'm pretty sure Jerry bid 3S, and Dan raised to 4D, so over Ken's 4S, I bid 5D. Ken doubled that, and I thought about redoubling but ultimately decided against it - I'm sure Ken would have sacrificed in 5S if he thought I could make 5D. Dan's hand was S J? H K-Q-10-9-7-5 D J-x-x-x C A-x, so it likely makes 6H. We only just made 5D when Jerry led a heart to Ken's void and he cashed a top spade - when Jerry dropped the singleton queen on the first round of trump, I claimed. I realize that if Jerry has a spade high enough, Ken could lead a low spade to it and get a second ruff for the set, but we're barely missing twelve high card points, and Jerry has all three of the red suit points, so I'm pretty sure Ken had all of the spade honors for his opening bid, and he probably gave himself extra for the spade length and the heart void. As for 6H, the spade trick is a given, but Dan just has to find the trump break with the king, cross to the ace and finesse out the jack, then cash the clubs and diamonds. So the opponents got off lightly, although I doubt we'd have found the slam. I ventured an overcall on three kings, ending up off one in 2S, and Ken jumped with less power than he should have had, putting them in an unmakeable contract. They ended with a partscore and the overtricks for game, but I'm pretty sure we were ahead with our game.

Today's Work: The demo was postponed, but nobody bothered to let me know (I was removed from the E-mail chain for some reason), so instead, I spent the day working on new features in such a way that the stuff that was working before should still work. The problem is that I've basically got two features to add, one of which is a colossal amount of work that's probably going to break things before I get it right. The other should be simple, and I plan to have it working by the end of the week. It's also something I decided we need on my own, so I really want to get it in place. I got most of the framework done today, and I just need to finish up tomorrow and maybe add a few bits of information for clarity.

I got a call yesterday from a billing office and returned it today, only to learn that the bill had been paid already and they just forgot to take me off the robocall list. I asked them to make sure I was removed from the list, after the previous time I dealt with the same hospital and got sent to collections before they finally agreed that I'd paid the bill in full and recalled it. The lady on the phone got defensive about that, saying that it was a different billing company. Hey, which is the company that didn't remove me from a robocall list when my bill was paid, eh?

Yes, I'm THAT Nidoking. Sometimes I write fanfiction... often I waste all my time playing video games and watching anime. But it's not a waste if I enjoy it, right? I can quote from a movie, video game, anime series, or British comedy apropos of just about any situation, and one of my main goals in life is to entertain people. (The other big one is amassing as much anime and manga as I can... see below for a progress report.) That's me in a nutshell. ("Help! I'm trapped in a nutshell! What a bloody great nutshell this is!")
