It was a pretty great day

Today's Bridge: The opponents started with 4S where we might have had a shot at setting them, but Dan C. would have needed to cash his three winners (ace of hearts, A-K of diamonds), then lead a third diamond into the board's void. I was also out of diamonds and if Dan H. hadn't ruffed with the ace, I could have overruffed with the ten for the set. It would have been nearly impossible to find that line, though, especially since I couldn't very well signal my doubleton, or declarer would have known to ruff high. Dan C. opened 2D on the next hand, though, and with S 9 H 7-x-x D A-K-Q-x-x C A-Q-x-x or so, I jumped right to 5D. Most of Dan's power was in hearts and the king of clubs was onside, so we made it with an overtrick. I didn't mind missing the slam there. I got 4H on the next hand, which I think I made by letting Dan H. keep his eight of hearts while dummy had 10-9 - when he declined to give me an overruff, I just cashed winners until I had a top crossruff. We played a second rubber that started with another game for us, then a 3S with three overtricks, putting us well ahead and ready to win the rubber with any contract on the final hand. I got S K-Q-x-x H K-x D 9-x-x-x-x C A-x and opened 1D. Dan C. jumped straight to 6D "to give the opponents a fair chance", he said. With S A-J-x H Q-x D A-K-Q-10-x-x-x C K, there was no chance for them. I guess there could be a 6-0 spade split or an 8-1 heart split, but the latter would definitely have affected the bidding, and the former still might have - with six spades to the ten and a diamond void, and the opponents any contract from victory, I might have scraped a 2S, especially with the ace of hearts as well. I doubt it would have stopped us, even though I probably wouldn't have bid again, having stretched a bit for my opening bid. 6D Rdbl (I considered redoubling, but left that to Dan) as the capper for our second rubber was a pretty good result. Shame I couldn't scrape an overtrick.

Today's Work: I finally got that hardware I wrote a driver for, while I was working on effort estimates for other things I'll be working on shortly. I got the cables and hooked it up, and even though I didn't have a video cable so I could make sure it was actually doing what I told it to, it acknowledged my commands and responded to my status requests (with a bit of fiddling that I expected to have to do, because no driver ever works quite right if you write it without the hardware to test it with), and when I plugged an HDMI cable in, the status changed to reflect the video coming in, so I think it's working properly. Tomorrow, I'll get to hook up the video feed and actually see it in action, assuming everything else I've done works with no more than minor tweaking.

Videos have consumed my entire evening, aside from taking the time to cook dinner, but dinner was really good and I got to watch a lot of Dexter, so I think it's all good.

Yes, I'm THAT Nidoking. Sometimes I write fanfiction... often I waste all my time playing video games and watching anime. But it's not a waste if I enjoy it, right? I can quote from a movie, video game, anime series, or British comedy apropos of just about any situation, and one of my main goals in life is to entertain people. (The other big one is amassing as much anime and manga as I can... see below for a progress report.) That's me in a nutshell. ("Help! I'm trapped in a nutshell! What a bloody great nutshell this is!")
