Waiting for videos to finish posting before bed - a favorite pastime

Today's Bridge: I had one good hand: S K-J-x H K-Q-x-x D A-K-x-x C A-K. I opened 2C, and when Paul responded 2S, we were looking at a possible slam in spades. However, I bid an exploratory 3D, and he raised to 4D. It was a tricky call which suit was better, but I thought having my hand hidden would work out better and that if I bid 4S, he might close there. So I went into RKCB, and missing one ace, I left it at 5D. His S A-Q-x-x-x H x-x D Q-10-9-8 C J-x makes slam in either of our suits a decent possibility, but the diamond split was 4-1 and I guarded against the wrong direction, playing the A-K first. By the time the split was revealed, I could no longer finesse out the jack and only made the 5. Crossing to the queen would have netted me the overtrick, but I'd have had to be psychic to make that guess. Every other hand was in the opponents' favor, and only auctions that left them playing with short trump suits or game hands played as partscores kept them from winning a rubber or two. Jerry's learning from his mistakes, including the ones that may not look like mistakes to most players but I would have bid differently in his position. In a 3H-P-P-4D-P auction, holding K-Q-J-x-x-x-x of clubs and the singleton king of diamonds, I'd bid 5C. Ken asked about bidding the four-card spade suit (to the king and maybe another honor - 4C is starting to look like a good overcall here), but I don't like that as much. If Kevin responds 5D, there's nowhere to go, while 5C leaves open 5D or the unlikely 5S, with any of the three bids quite playable. There are days when there's just nothing to work with.

Today's Work: Instead of being able to work on my project, I spent the day waiting for a meeting that kept getting postponed, always just not long enough to be worth driving to the lab and setting stuff up. There may even be a repeat tomorrow, since by the time we finally started, there wasn't enough time to get through everything on the agenda. I really want to ignore it, though. I got stuff to do from the meeting, so that's enough for now.
