The five-day weekend idea sounds appealing, but I'm too lazy to do that.

Today's Bridge: I don't think I bid very well - I ended up in 3NT with only J-x-x-x of the opponents' spades, and when they let me have the jack on the first trick, I had five diamonds and two hearts to claim, but I needed something from my split K-Q of clubs. Fortunately, when I led up to the king, it held, and that was the contract. Then I took Kevin out of a making 4NT into 5D off one - I didn't want to leave him with a weak holding in opponents' suit like I'd had, but he had A-Q-J or thereabouts, with the king onside. At least we caught the opponents in 2H off five - Jerry didn't know what to bid with his 4-4-4-1 distribution (singleton ace of hearts) and passed Ken's hearts twice - I went ahead and bid my A-Q-J-10 of spades the first time as a balance, but had no desire to take the bidding up any higher. Jerry's still learning, but I think he's grasping some of the important principles - sometimes, you just have to see why certain choices are mistakes to appreciate why you need to recognize them in the future and act differently.

I really wish I'd finished all my work yesterday so I could justify taking off earlier today than I did - I barely left an hour early, and even after arriving about an hour earlier than my usual earliest, I still couldn't beat the snow home. It never fell very heavily, but the steady snowfall coated the roads and there was ice underneath. We came to complete stops a few times, particularly on uphill stretches, which I always hate doing. Once, a truck went off the road on a right curve, and it was fortunate that there were three people in it - two of them got out and pushed it back onto the road while everyone behind them waited. When I finally started moving again, I had to turn the wheel halfway around to the left to stay on the road as it curved right. The car was pulling THAT hard. The more I accelerated, the more it pulled to the right, and it wasn't until I stepped on the brake afterward that it straightened out. Maybe the snow had accumulated in one of the wheel wells that much and one of the tires wasn't turning. Whatever happened, I decided to skip Taco Bell entirely and just make dinner at home. Maybe I'll go this weekend, if I even feel safe driving anywhere. I might just stay in the house until Monday.
