Today's Bridge: My first hand was the good one. I had S K-Q-x H K-Q-J-10-9-x D A-4 C A-4. Unfortunately, an opponent opened 2D, so while Mike and I found our 4S contract, we didn't find the slam. We were only missing the ace of hearts, I think. After that, we were on the defense most of the time, with the occasional contract that we couldn't make. There was a bit of respite when Ken opened 2C and they ended up in 3NT. He had a singleton ace of clubs and K-J-9-x of spades, while I had A-Q-10 of spades. I think Dan H. still had a play for it, but he ducked from the A-K-x of diamonds on the opening lead, drawing my jack and his queen, which left him no entry to his hand for the long diamonds, and I certainly didn't let him have one. I led clubs every time I got in the lead, and when Mike had the king, all was in our favor.

Enough things came up at work that I didn't get to do most of the things I needed to do. I did what I could, as always. And Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency is keeping me entertained in the car.
