Why they gotta ask me about relationships? ME? It's like asking Ryoga Hibiki for directions.

Today's Bridge: The only points we scored the entire time were from a one-trick set when Ken went for a slam in spades and stopped short at 5S. He was missing the top two diamonds and let me have my singleton king of spades - the finesse would have been a tricky play to find, and I'd still win. Cashing the ace was the only winning play, and no declarer would ever do it. They made a 4C along the way, but in every other hand, I declared a sacrifice contract. I may have missed one by three tricks, but I held the rest to off two at worst, including one where I knew the trump split was bad and still went for it. Well, Mike had opened 1H, I think Keith bid 2D, and Ken bid 2S. I had S J-10-x-x-x-x H A-K-9-x D x C x-x. I passed, Mike bid 3C, and Keith and Ken passed. What could I do but bid 3S? Nobody doubled, and Keith had S K H J-x and a lot of diamonds. I don't remember what our clubs looked like, but I won Mike's heart lead with the jack and led the other heart to my ace so I could ruff my other low one with the king of spades before pulling the rest. Ken won half of those tricks, but I managed to get the king of hearts at the end. I had a few pre-emptive bids along the way, including a reasonably solid 3C at the end that Keith ended up taking to 5C while Mike kept bidding diamonds. He wasn't as strong as I'd hoped, but it was an excellent sacrifice. My opinion on the day was that it was the best rubber I've ever lost. The opponents had the power to win at least one rubber in those hands, maybe two.

Today's Work: We didn't get a lot done at the phone conference, but I don't think we expected to. We got through most of the short agenda, anyway, and I came up with an idea that I'm surprised didn't occur to me before. We're going over more document comments tomorrow, while I'm in another meeting. That should be fun.

Okay... I'm pretty sure I know what they're asking, and that it's pretty close to what I'm going to answer, but if they can't be bothered to use normal words, I'm going to ignore the "cosplay" element because it's my entry and shut up, it's still my entry. I'm going to try to pick the characters I think I would be most compatible with if they were real, or conversely, if I were in their universes. The biggest problem with this question is that anime characters never age, aside from the really long series like Dragonball where they jump ahead several years at a time, whereas I keep getting older and outgrowing any characters I might have been attracted to. 25 is pretty old for an anime character, and even that seems a bit young for me. So I'll pretend the ages match up, either by me becoming younger or the character becoming older, probably depending on which universe we end up in.

The only anime girl I've even thought about in those terms is Ukyo Kuonji from Ranma 1/2. I'll even admit to having plotted out and written part of a self-insertion fanfic that would have paired me with her. I think her appeal comes from the nature of her relationship with Ranma, strangely enough. They seem pretty content as friends, and Ukyo doesn't seem to be interested in more than "friends with privileges". Sure, she wants Ranma to marry her, but compared with all of his other would-be fiancées, Ukyo seems to be the most tolerant of him spending time with other girls, which is important to me in a female companion. I'm close friends with quite a few women, and jealousy just wouldn't make for a good relationship. And that's the sort of relationship I'd want - more just being friends than anything else. It's also a big mark in her favor that she runs her own business. Not that money is a big concern, but I like being able to spend it, and single-income families have it rough these days. No idea whether kids would come into the picture, but planning ahead is important. It also helps that she's cute, but there aren't many anime females who aren't cute. I guess hers is almost more of a down-to-Earth cute, though, which is refreshing. Maybe Shampoo's cuter, but our personalities would never work together.

I suppose there's also Taeko Minazuki from Ai Yori Aoshi. Clumsiness can be endearing, and I think she's got just the right balance of that and the determination to overcome her problems. Why she would be the best example I can come up with, I couldn't tell you, but she's the one my mind goes to when I think of endearing clumsiness. And she's cute too. I think it's the glasses, but she also wears that French braid really well. And the house would always be clean.

And after all that, I'd be remiss in not going back to a more traditional question of favorite Sailor Warrior from Sailor Moon. I used to be a big Jupiter fan, but ultimately (probably after watching the live action version), I've come to think Mercury might be a better match for me. I'm a fan of long hair (especially in ponytails, hence the Jupiter favoritism), and she's the only one of the main cast who doesn't have long hair, which is probably why she was under my radar in college. But the focus on intelligence, the kindness, and the badassery that her live action incarnation showed are pretty respectable traits in my mind. And someone later sent me a picture of Sailor Mercury with slightly longer hair, and I think it really brought out her cuteness. Yeah, I keep saying they're cute, but that's anime for you.

As for manga... well, I've read all three of the manga for those series, so I'm going to stick with the first two answers, at least. I don't remember any of the characters in the Sailor Moon manga demonstrating much personality at all. It's probably just because there was so much more to the anime, even amid the repetetive stock footage.
