Why don't they look? And why did I?

Today's Bridge: We definitely came out on top, although we didn't do too well in the second hand. I opened 1D with S K-J-x H x-x D A-x-x-x C A-K-Q-x, intending to jump with the second response, but Dan jumped himself, to 2S. Figuring it didn't make sense to jump after that, I bid 3C, and he intended to close at 3NT. However, I figured we might have the makings of a slam and bid 4C. He interpreted it as Gerber, as I intended, and responded 4H. Missing an ace, I decided to close in 4NT. However, he bid 5C, and I had no idea why, so I passed rather than fumble around for a suit. What he had was S A-Q-x-x H A-Q-x-x D J-x-x-x C J. Yeah... we had no chance. It makes 4NT without even trying, since we've got eight tricks in the black suits and two red aces. If the opening lead isn't a diamond, we can even afford to try the heart finesse. We were off two because I lost the ace of spades on a ruff to the long club. However, we got back into it with another 5C. Paul had opened 1D, and with S K H J-x-x D x-x C Q-10-8-x-x-x-x, I decided to bid the second most marginal 3C overcall of my life. (The first was a Yarborough, but with two singletons.) Dan responded 3S, so I had to go up to 4C, and he raised me to 5. He wasn't quite as strong as I expected, with S Q-J-8-x-x-x H K D A-J-x C A-J-9, but it was enough. I misplayed throughout and got lucky. The opening lead was a spade, which Paul took with the ace. He led the queen of diamonds, and I had to take the ace, because I couldn't afford to lose the ace of hearts. I cashed the queen of spades, Paul dropping the ten, and this is where I got stupid and cashed the jack as well. He and Ken each followed, letting me sluff a heart. Now I ruffed a diamond low and led the queen of clubs, which pulled Ken's king. From there, it was a simple matter of cashing the jack of clubs and sluffing the rest of my hearts on the spades to make 6. However, the right play was to ruff the diamond immediately after cashing the first spade, because if Paul had the king of clubs or he was falsecarding from a three-spade holding (he'd have had the 9 in that case, making it a clever defensive ploy at no real cost), I blew the contract by leading the jack (although I'm going to lose the club king on the finesse anyway if he has it), and if Ken has three spades, then I'll need an extra board entry to set up the spades, and I don't have it. By leaving the jack there, I can pull two rounds of trump ending on the board, ruff a low spade back to my hand, then cross in clubs (pulling the last one if Ken has it) and lead the spades down from the jack to win them all regardless of whether they split 2-2 or Ken has three of them. I lose in that case if, as I mentioned before, Paul is holding three spades, but my actual line of play loses anyway. I don't think I can win that one if Ken has three clubs and Paul has four spades, which would also have prompted that opening lead. A diamond lead destroys us, because I can't set up spade winners without giving up the ace, and they can then take the ace of hearts and a top diamond to set us. They declared 4S in the final hand, and Dan doubled it based on my repeated high-level bids. I had all four aces and a bit of side-suit power as well, and he had the king of hearts for yet another trick, although I was unhappy that he didn't cover the queen when I led A-Q and return a heart for a ruff. Fortunately, I found him with a singleton club when I underled my A-J-x-x-x through the board's K-Q-10-x-x. The ace lead would have been better, but I didn't want to set up those clubs on the board, and I wanted that heart lead. We got three hearts anyway, and they ended up off three, which is reasonable even if we'd have had trouble making 3NT.

Yeah, I could cut that, but then anyone who wants to read it would have to read today's anime and manga meme, and who wants to do that, especially with today's topic? Granted, I took it in my own direction, as you'd probably expect, but...

Seriously? Brigadoon ecchi? Ain't gonna happen. I don't care about Rule 34. I'm not even looking.

I figured this would be a good time to come up with an alternate topic that better suits the way I actually watch anime, like "Your favorite sex scene", but then I realized that I don't watch many series that have those. I don't think I've actually watched any hentai series at all, and non-hentai series naturally keep it all offscreen. There was Ninja Scroll, I suppose, but I doubt I'd ever be able to call that scene my "favorite" anything. I don't even know whether Futari H had a sex scene in it, and that's a series about having sex! (I don't remember whether I watched the whole series... I might just have watched the first half.) Actually, that's a problem I have with a lot of series... the sex scenes would probably come near the end, since that's usually the most significant part of the romantic experience for the characters, and I don't watch many series to completion these days. Then there were probably some scenes I've forgotten about. So I can't even answer my own topic.

Although... I seem to remember Onegai Teacher having an all-voice sex scene, probably in an extra.

Manga, though, don't stick to the same standards because it's a lot easier to obscure the parts they can't show and be artistic about it. There are also a lot more mainstream series about sex in manga than anime, at least among the ones I'm willing to check out. There's everything from sex being the climax (pun not entirely intended) of the series (Ai Yori Aoshi) to it being the driving force behind the plot (Absolute Boyfriend), to the forbidden nature of it being the driving force behind the plot (Black Bird), to it continuing to be the driving force behind the plot even after it's happened (Butterflies, Flowers). And then sometimes, it's really disturbing (Kannazuki no Miko), while at other times, it's really beautiful (Red River). If I have to pick a favorite, I think I'd have to go with Futari H. It may not be the most emotional sex scene, but it has plenty of them to choose from, and it's very instructional.

Also... I looked. I hate whoever came up with this.
