Still barely avoiding bad weather

Today's Bridge: We got off to a decent start, although Dan H. kind of cheaped out in the first hand. Dan C. opened 2S, and with S J-x-x H A-Q-J-x D A-Q C K-10-8-x, I felt I was worth a double. He predictably responded 3D, so I took the risk of overstating my power and bid 3H. He passed that with S x-x H K-10-9-x D J-x-x-x-x C A-x. Frankly, I think that holding demands a raise to game. Ken's opening king of diamonds lead gave me nine tricks on top, and when the trump split 3-2, I had ten. I cashed the queen of diamonds and crossed to the ace of clubs to throw a spade on the jack. Then I led dummy's last club, intending to finesse, but Dan played the king, so I covered and ruffed the eight. When the queen fell on that, I could ruff a diamond back to hand and cash the ten, making eleven in all. The next hand started with Ken opening 1H and Dan doubling. I was 4-3-3-3 and bid my four-card diamond suit, which Dan corrected to spades. I left it at that, since it was all we needed for game, so Ken balanced with 3H. I jumped to 4S, calculating that we had the power for it (and forgetting that we didn't need it for game), and Ken doubled. I decided not to redouble, which is a shame because Dan made it exactly. We followed with a couple of one-trick sets (to be fair to me, when I bid 1NT over Dan's 1D opener with S 10-x H A-x D K-x C 10-9-8-x-x-x-x, it was the superior contract, and with his S A-J-x-x H x-x D J-x-x-x C A-K-Q, it makes with an overtrick on any lead but a heart or if the ace of diamonds is well-placed), and we didn't double Ken's ill-fated 2NT that was off three when his K-Q and Dan C's A-x didn't stop the spades quite enough. But they stopped short of a couple of slam tries and made two games to win the rubber.

Today's Work: I had early training, then set to work on the remaining problems with the build. At the end of the day, I'd resolved them all enough to get a working build, but there are still some oddities that I want to look into further. Visual Studio 2015 seems to have some memory problems. Not unlike me. Then I came home and made fajitas. I only made half of what I had, so I'll have to cook again tomorrow night, but it's not a problem on a Friday night. I might even be able to do some commentary then.

Yes, I'm THAT Nidoking. Sometimes I write fanfiction... often I waste all my time playing video games and watching anime. But it's not a waste if I enjoy it, right? I can quote from a movie, video game, anime series, or British comedy apropos of just about any situation, and one of my main goals in life is to entertain people. (The other big one is amassing as much anime and manga as I can... see below for a progress report.) That's me in a nutshell. ("Help! I'm trapped in a nutshell! What a bloody great nutshell this is!")
