Today's Bridge: Mostly a good day for me, although I screwed up the defense in a slam - I had the top cards in two suits and didn't keep a count of which one was the same suit as declarer's last. But we started with a 4S that was tough to bid - I had S A-3-2 H 9 D Q-J-10-9-7-x C K-x-x and Ken passed on my left. Dan C. opened 1S, Jerry bid 1NT, and I bid 2D, all perfectly normal. Ken jumped straight to 4H, and it got passed around to me. I considered 5D, but 4S seemed like a much safer bet. Dan didn't take the marked finesse in trump and lost the king as well as the two red aces, but he had three diamonds to the king and the contract was easy enough. Then I had S x-x H A-J-x-x D K-Q-x C A-K-Q-x when Jerry opened 1S. I doubled, and Dan bid 1NT, presumably indicating a good spade holding and flat distribution. Jerry bid 2S, and I decided to pick a suit with 3C. Dan actually had S x-x H K-x-x D 10-x-x-x C J-x-x-x, and the opening lead was a heart to Jerry's queen, so I pulled trump, threw a spade on the long heart, and caught Jerry's ace of diamonds by leading from the board for two overtricks. That's when they made that slam and another game where I think a slam might have been possible, and a new rubber began. I had a tough time in 5D - I had S x-x-x H K-Q D K-Q-8-6-5-4 C x-x and pushed to the four level in a heated auction. Dan raised to game with S K-x H A-J-10-x D 9-7-3 C A-Q-10-x. Ken had pre-empted in spades, so the ace was marked, as were most of the rest of the finesses. I took the opening club lead with the ace and immediately crossed to the king of hearts, then overtook the queen so I could throw my remaining club on the jack. My only hope was to lead diamonds from dummy twice, covering Jerry's two with the king and taking Ken's ten, then back to the king of spades so I could lead toward the queen. Jerry put in the jack and Ken showed out. That gave me the contract, as I could now lead a spade that only Ken could take, and the only trick left for the opponents was the ace of trump. Had Jerry taken the ace on the second round of diamonds and led his last diamond, I would have no way to get to the ten of hearts and would have to lose a second spade. Ken finally went for 5D himself and ended up off three - trump were 4-4-4-1 (Dan had the singleton ace, which was nice), and we had slow tricks in each side suit that he couldn't answer. He seemed to think that avoiding the losing heart finesse would have made the contract, but I give him at most one more trick from that.

Today's Work: I finally feel like I'm actually making progress rather than just waiting for progress to happen. I gave the team a quick tutorial in the basic functions of Git Extensions, so we'll all be on the same page once we really start working with the code again, and we got our source in repositories that everyone can access, although we need to do some cleanup and make some changes to get it working from a new location. I'm also trying to figure out how to make Java not install if there's already a newer version on the system. I'm surprised that Java itself doesn't catch that, but apparently, you can install as many versions as you want as long as you install them in reverse order.

I also finally found a company that can fix my windshield here in town - I just had to search for one myself when all the ones my insurance company pointed me to said they couldn't do it. Admittedly, the request to have it done at Mom's house over the weekend led them to think I would be living there from now on. Anyway, I'll have to take more time off tomorrow to get that done, but it has to be done. I also finally bought Rhythm Heaven Megamix, just because. I'm sure I'll want to play something that isn't Hyrule Warriors eventually.

Yes, I'm THAT Nidoking. Sometimes I write fanfiction... often I waste all my time playing video games and watching anime. But it's not a waste if I enjoy it, right? I can quote from a movie, video game, anime series, or British comedy apropos of just about any situation, and one of my main goals in life is to entertain people. (The other big one is amassing as much anime and manga as I can... see below for a progress report.) That's me in a nutshell. ("Help! I'm trapped in a nutshell! What a bloody great nutshell this is!")
