Today's Bridge: It was a pretty good day, where I got a lot of fairly powerful hands. The opponents ended up in 3NT for the first hand, and with S K-J-9-x H x-x-x D Q-x-x C K-x-x and spades the only suit not bid, I figured my side suit entries were good and started with the little spade to Jerry's ten and Dan H.'s queen. Dan led the ten of clubs toward S x-x H J-x D A-x-x C A-J-9-x-x-x in dummy, and Jerry's queen won. He led the queen of hearts, which won, then cashed the ace before switching to a spade to my nine. I led a third spade, which Dan was forced to take with the ace I knew he had, and he elected to cash the kings of hearts and diamonds before crossing to the ace of diamonds. Exiting with a club was a huge mistake - I now had the king of clubs as well as the top diamond and spade for off three. I made a game next, but Dan C. jumped into the next auction with 3H. We let him have it and set him one. Next, I had S A-x-x H K-J-x D J-10-x C A-Q-x-x or so and opened 1C, since I was just short of 1NT. Dan C. overcalled 1D, Jerry bid 1H, Dan H. bid 2D, and even though my diamonds were pretty bad, I bid 2NT to give a good picture of my distribution and power. Jerry raised me to game, which I wasn't happy about until I saw his hand - S K-x-x H A-10-9-8-x D A-x C x-x-x. That ace of diamonds was just what I needed for a second stop in the suit, covering the opening king lead. I ignored the club finesse and finessed a heart instead, losing to Dan C.'s queen. He cashed the queen of diamonds, then led a low one to my jack, and I ran four hearts, two spades, and the ace of clubs to make the contract. I had a lot less luck in the next hand, though - I was strong enough to press to 3S, but the splits were awful and I was lucky to be off two. I made out better in the final hand, but all I had was S J-x-x H A-10-x-x D J C x-x-x-x-x. I bid 1H over Jerry's 1D, and he jump-raised to 3H. I should have raised to game but was barely strong enough for my initial bid. He had a whopper with S A-K-x H K-Q-x-x D A-Q-10-x-x C K. The opening lead was the ace of clubs, followed by the jack of hearts, clearly a singleton. I captured with the king and cashed the queen, then realized I was in the wrong hand, but I had enough trump to cross to the nine. I ran the jack of diamonds, which lost to the king, then ruffed the club return and ran diamonds until Dan H. ruffed with his last heart. I overruffed, crossed to the ace of spades to cash the last diamond, and claimed when the queen of spades fell under the king.

Today's Work: Largely discovering that the things we need to do may present some security risks that we'll have to evaluate. It's a question of how much we plan to let safety get in the way of getting anything done.

I used way too much seasoning on my fish for dinner, but it still tasted okay. Just really, really spicy.

Yes, I'm THAT Nidoking. Sometimes I write fanfiction... often I waste all my time playing video games and watching anime. But it's not a waste if I enjoy it, right? I can quote from a movie, video game, anime series, or British comedy apropos of just about any situation, and one of my main goals in life is to entertain people. (The other big one is amassing as much anime and manga as I can... see below for a progress report.) That's me in a nutshell. ("Help! I'm trapped in a nutshell! What a bloody great nutshell this is!")
