Today's Bridge: The first rubber didn't end well for us, but the other side had the cards to pull it off and found the right contracts. I played a 5C that was cold for 6 on the lead and made 7 with the onside finesse - S A-x H A-J D K-9-x C A-Q-J-x-x-x facing S x-x-x H K-x D A-J-10-x-x C 10-x-x. The lead was the queen of diamonds, which I took in dummy to run the trump finesse, and when diamonds split 3-2, I didn't even need to ruff one to establish the suit. The final hand was also pretty interesting - I had S K-Q-x-x-x H x-x D K-10-x-x C K-x, and Ken opened 1H. With the opponents remaining silent, the auction proceeded 1S-2C-2NT-3H-3NT, although I think I should have bid 3S. We'd have ended up in the same place. The lead was a low club, and Ken laid down S 9 H A-Q-x-x-x D J-x-x C A-Q-9-x. I let the lead run to my king and led a low heart, covering Kevin's ten with the queen. I think this was a mistake, since I wanted Kevin to lead toward my kings, but he had plenty of clubs, so that plan wasn't going to work, and had I not played the queen, I wouldn't have made the contract. Dan H. took the king and led a club to Kevin's jack and Ken's queen. I led a low heart, on which Dan made the mistake of playing the nine, and Kevin was forced to take the jack. He led another club, and the nine held. With no board entries, I had little choice but to cash the ace of hearts and lead a low heart, finding to my surprise that Ken's seven held the trick even though Dan still had a low heart. (Had I not drawn the king on the first round, I can't imagine he would have kept the two little hearts to the end.) So I cashed the rest of the winners, which brought me down to four cards - naturally, the K-Q of spades and K-10 of diamonds. Then I led dummy's only spade and hoped. Luck was with me - Dan took the ace, then cashed the ace of diamonds before exiting with his choice of a spade or a diamond to my two now established kings. A low diamond would at least have required me to guess.

I made fajitas for dinner and forgot to add cheese. They were still pretty good. I've got some Philly cheese steak mix that I might use later in the week to do the same sort of thing - maybe with some carne asada seasoning. Just to use up the rest of the guacamole, which is also important because I didn't even try to buy avocados this week. Mom might consider it tantamount to blasphemy, but she also might think it's a pretty clever idea. I guess I'll find out.

Yes, I'm THAT Nidoking. Sometimes I write fanfiction... often I waste all my time playing video games and watching anime. But it's not a waste if I enjoy it, right? I can quote from a movie, video game, anime series, or British comedy apropos of just about any situation, and one of my main goals in life is to entertain people. (The other big one is amassing as much anime and manga as I can... see below for a progress report.) That's me in a nutshell. ("Help! I'm trapped in a nutshell! What a bloody great nutshell this is!")
