Today's Bridge: Bruce joined us, and he was on the other team today, so the opposition chucked hard. He started with a reasonable 3H where he never bothered to pull trump and led spades twice, giving us ruffs each time. (My defense wasn't great - I took the opening lead with the ace, where I should have let it go and taken the second one for an immediate ruff.) Then I landed in 3C with an overtrick, followed by a very interesting auction. Dan C. opened 1H and Dan H overcalled 1S. With S 5 H Q-x D A-Q-x-x-x C A-K-x-x-x, I could have bid 2D, but I felt a negative double was more descriptive. Bruce helped me out by bidding 2C, and Dan H. rebid 2S. Knowing that our suit could only be diamonds (or maybe hearts, if they were really good), I bid 3D. Dan H. raised to 3S, but I went 4D in confidence, and he just doubled. Dummy was S A-K H K-10-x-x-x D J-9-x C J-10-x, so I can see why he passed each time, although he'd considered redoubling. I took the opening spade lead and cashed the other spade, sluffing a heart just in case I got the opportunity to throw another, since the clubs would likely be good eventually. I took advantage of the single probable board entry to run the jack of diamonds, which held, and then decided to switch to the jack of clubs, which was ruffed by Dan H. while Bruce played the queen, evidently forgetting that diamonds were trump. That was good for an extra trick, but Dan H. compounded the problem by leading a spade, giving me the much-needed ruff and sluff. I led the last diamond and finessed the queen successfully, then cashed the ace of trump to bring down the king and cashed the clubs for two overtricks. The opponents two-putted a game out of an underbid game and an underbid slam (Bruce didn't bid his power in the first one, then bid his power but not his fit for partner's suit in the second), and we finished with a sacrifice 3S where I probably should have doubled - the auction was 1C-3C and I had S Q-9-8-x H A-J-x D K-x-x C x-x-x, not a bad situation for a takeout double. I was off two for 200, but the doubled overtricks made up for that and we came out just ahead.

Today's Work: I finally got a computer to use, only to discover that our network doesn't like the programs I'm trying to use. I'll have to work it out next week, though. We have a severely short deadline for a huge task, and while nobody expects us to meet it, we're being asked to try anyway. I predict some burnout by the time this is done.

Yes, I'm THAT Nidoking. Sometimes I write fanfiction... often I waste all my time playing video games and watching anime. But it's not a waste if I enjoy it, right? I can quote from a movie, video game, anime series, or British comedy apropos of just about any situation, and one of my main goals in life is to entertain people. (The other big one is amassing as much anime and manga as I can... see below for a progress report.) That's me in a nutshell. ("Help! I'm trapped in a nutshell! What a bloody great nutshell this is!")
