Someone is doing an LP of Folklore. Neat.

Today's Bridge: We rounded up a couple of occasional players, and while it was tempting to make sure that Ken and I weren't partnered against them, I also think it worked really well that we were partnered and could explain each other's bids as we went. We started with a 3H off two - I corrected out of 2NT despite a Moysian fit (4-3 in trump) because things looked really bad in notrump from my perspective, but I have no idea which was actually the better contract. We followed by making 3D and then 2S, each with an overtrick, and then I had S A-x-x H A-x D A-10-9-x-x-x C K-x. I opened 1D, Bruce doubled, Ken jumped to 2S, Carlos bid 3H (after I explained that the vulnerability made taking some risks a better option), I bid 4D, and Bruce bid 4H. I doubled that, mostly because I was pretty sure they had no chance. I led the ace of diamonds, figuring my partner was likely to be short, and Bruce's hand was the rather anemic S x-x H K-x-x D Q-x-x-x C A-x-x-x or so. Not enough for a takeout double, at any rate, and definitely not enough for a 4H when not in the pass-out seat. Ken dropped the jack on the opening lead, so I led another for him to ruff. He led the king of spades, which I let ride, and followed with the queen, which I also ducked even though I probably should have covered. He followed with the queen of clubs, and while I was tempted to cover, I let it go to the ace. I won the trump follow-up and cashed the king of clubs, but with no obvious entry to Ken's hand, I had nothing better to do than lead a diamond and hope he could ruff high. All he had was the ten, which Carlos overruffed to pull my last trump. He then crossed to a trump on the board (on which I unblocked the ace of spades, not that it mattered), ruffed a diamond, and exited with a club to Ken's jack, giving up the final trick to Ken's last spade for off five doubled. Not a good sacrifice, especially since I don't know whether we had a fit anywhere. Maybe Ken's spades were long enough to make 4S work. I certainly should have had enough entries to set up the diamonds.

And that was my last day at work for the year. It was nice, because my boss gave me some leftover diet soda from the event that ran so long yesterday, they never made it to the room where the snacks were set up. Our visitors' loss, and my gain.

Yes, I'm THAT Nidoking. Sometimes I write fanfiction... often I waste all my time playing video games and watching anime. But it's not a waste if I enjoy it, right? I can quote from a movie, video game, anime series, or British comedy apropos of just about any situation, and one of my main goals in life is to entertain people. (The other big one is amassing as much anime and manga as I can... see below for a progress report.) That's me in a nutshell. ("Help! I'm trapped in a nutshell! What a bloody great nutshell this is!")
